The Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA), will be bringing a majestic exhibition to the Central Coast on February 8, where they will showcase pieces of some of the greatest Italian artists like Sandro Boticelli and Giovanni Bellini.

“We are delighted to host ’Botticelli, Titian, and Beyond: Masterpieces of Italian Painting from Glasgow Museums’, since the SBMA is the only museum in the entire West Coast that will host those master pieces. It will be a unique and great opportunity for the community to come and enjoy it,” said Katrina Karl, communicator directors for the Museum.

Included are more than 40 art works by some of the greatest masters of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods, such as Bellini, Botticelli, Domenichino, Salvator Rosa, Luca Signorelli, and Titian, many of which have never before been exhibited outside of Glasgow.

The beautiful and important exhibition explores the evolution of Italian art and reflects the outstanding quality and remarkable 500-year range—from the late 14th to the 19th centuries—that are part of the collection belonging to the Glasgow Museum.

The organizers also stated that several pieces have been newly restored for the exhibition, among them, the southern ‘Italian Adoration of the Magi’ by the unknown artist known as the “Master of the Glasgow Adoration.”

Like in many cases happen when a museum gets in hold of historic work of art, the Glasgow’s Italian collection was donated by a collector, Archibald McLellan (1797–1854), who spent much of his wealth on art.

Prior to the opening at the SBMA, the exhibition was on view in Great Britain in an expanded version, and to other selected museums in Canada and the States.
