Programada para el 20 de septiembre hasta el día 28, la Creek Week o semana de los Arroyos, es una celebración anual de las cuencas locales, y una oportunidad para la comunidad de aprender más acerca de estos y el mar través de actividades prácticas.

Las autoridades anunciaron que los eventos de la Creek Week se iniciarán el sábado 20 de septiembre, fecha que coincide con el Día de Limpieza de Costas, y continuarán hasta el domingo 28 de septiembre.

Este evento anual que lleva ya 15 años celebrándose crea conciencia de las muchas formas de disfrutar, proteger y restaurar las cuencas hidrográficas locales.

La Creek Week es coordinada por la división de Arroyos de la Ciudad de Santa Bárbara, el Proyecto de Agua Limpia del gobierno del condado, la ciudad de Goleta, la Ciudad de Carpintería y la UCSB.

Los eventos que serán de mucha diversión y educación para todos serán organizados por diferentes grupos comunitarios y organizaciones ambientales.

Incluidos en el calendario de una semana de eventos habrán limpieza de arroyos y de playas, restauración del hábitat en ciertas quebradas, caminatas guiadas, proyecciones de películas, visitas de proyectos ambientales, y más.

Así, el domingo, 21 de septiembre a las 5:30 p.m., habrá un evento social “Noche de Trivia Creek Week” en el restaurante Brewhouse ubicado en el 229 W. Montecito Street de Santa Bárbara.

El viernes 26 de septiembre a las 9:30 de la mañana, la División de Arroyos se asociará con Horny Toad Clothing, Channel Islands Outfitters, y el personal del zoológico de Santa Bárbara para limpiar East Beach, cerca de la quebrada de Laguna Mission.

Se invita a los miembros de la comunidad a participar, y a reunirse en la “zona verde” o con pasto al este del Stearns Wharf, localizada entre los baños y la laguna.

Bolsas y guantes serán proporcionados, así como refrescos.

Las últimas celebraciones, serán el sábado 27 de septiembre a las 9:30 de la mañana, cuando la División Arroyos estará organizando un tour en el popular bus anfibio “Land Shark”, visitando lugares de restauración ambiental y el proyecto de mejora de la calidad del agua de los arroyos, luego se aventurarán en el océano para discutir los próximos proyectos de Mission Creek Lagoon y Laguna Creek Restoration.

Para asistir a este tour los organizadores piden reservar el cupo, así como hacer un pago de $5.

Scheduled for September 20th through the 28th, Creek Week is an annual celebration of our local watersheds, and an opportunity for community members to learn more about local creeks and the ocean through hands-on activities and volunteer events.

The authorities announced that Creek Week festivities will kick-off Saturday, September 20 to coincide with Coastal Cleanup Day, and will continue through Sunday, September 28th.

This 15th annual event raises awareness of the many ways to enjoy, protect, and restore our local watersheds.

Creek Week is coordinated by the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division, County of Santa Barbara Project Clean Water, the City of Goleta, the City of Carpinteria, and UCSB with fun and educational events planned and hosted by many community groups and environmental organizations.

Included in the week-long calendar of events will be creek and beach clean-ups, habitat restoration efforts, guided nature walks, film screenings, project tours, and more.

On Sunday, September 21 at 5:30 p.m., at the Brewhouse at 229 W. Montecito Street there will be a special Creek Week Trivia Night. ·        

On Friday, September 26 at 9:30 a.m., the Creeks Division will partner with Horny Toad Clothing, Channel Islands Outfitters, and Santa Barbara Zoo staff to clean up East Beach near the Mission Creek Lagoon.

Community members are invited to join in, they will be greet by the staff on the grass just east of Stearns Wharf between the restrooms and the Lagoon.

Bags and gloves will be provided, as well as light refreshments.

The last events, to be host on Saturday, September 27th at 9:30 a.m., the Creeks Division will host a tour on the Land Shark, visiting creek restoration and water quality improvement project sites on land, then venturing into the ocean to discuss the upcoming Mission Creek Lagoon and Laguna Creek Restoration Project.

To attend to this tour a reservation with a $5 payment is required.
