Se celebrará el “Festival del Menudo de SB” / Celebrating the 4th annual Menudo Festival

Para los amantes de los exquisitos y auténticos sabores de la cocina mexicana este próximo 2 de octubre, el Departamento de Policía de Santa Bárbara por medio de su Programa Youth Explorer estará organizando la tercera edición del «Festival del Menudo».

Por sólo $10 adultos, y $5 niños de 4 a 12 años, los asistentes podrán disfrutar de todo e menudo que deseen, el cual será proporcionado por 11 diferentes restaurantes locales.

Según el oficial del SBPD, Adrián Gutiérrez, quien creó el evento para recaudar fondos para el Programa Explorador de Policía de la Juventud del SBPD, el evento tendrá lugar en la Escuela Franklin, ubicada en el 1111 E. Mason Street, Santa Bárbara, de 9:00 a.m. a 2:00 p.m..

«Este es una gran oportunidad no sólo para degustar uno de los más deliciosos platillos mexicanos, sino también para ayudar a decenas de niños a cambiar su vida a través de la Youth Academy», indicó el oficial de Gutiérrez, quien tomó la idea para el festival después de haber participado en la organización del Festival de Menudo de Santa María.

Gutiérrez también aseveró que el evento ha ganado mucha popularidad no sólo con la comunidad local, sino también fuera del condado de Santa Bárbara.

«Cada año tenemos más y más gente que viene, el primer año tuvimos alrededor de 200, el año pasado fueron 600 y este año esperamos un número mayor. Tenemos gente que viene desde Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, e incluso de Los Ángeles», enfatizó el oficial.

El boleto incluye, además de todo el menudo de cualquier persona puede comer, disfrutar de música y el entretenimiento para los niños.

Por primera vez, en el evento de este año, los organizadores estarán vendiendo perros calientes y hamburguesas para los que quieren degustar de algo diferente.

Los restaurantes participantes son principalmente aquellos ubicados en el área de la calle Milpas del Eastside siendo estos: Los Altos Restaurante, Cesar’s Place SB Mouse Louge #605, El Bajío Restaurant, La Tapatia Bakery, Taqueria La Colmena, Disfruta, Dave’s Dogs, Tacos Pipeyes, y Sofi’s Hot Dogs.

Los restaurantes estarán participando también paa ganar el título de «Mejor Menudo en Santa Bárbara», donde en las pasadas ediciones los ganadores fueron: SB Mouse Louge #605 y La Tapatía Bakery.

El Oficial Gutiérrez afirmó que este año la forma de elegir el ganador será diferente.

«Antes era una combinación de los votos de la gente y la votación de un jurado, pero este año cada persona recibirá una boleta para poner en una de los puestos de los concursantes, y quien obtenga más votos será el ganador».

Al mismo tiempo, el oficial dijo que el campeón del «Festival Menudo», recibirá una placa de reconocimiento y un trofeo, el cual estará por todo el año en sus instalaciones.

El año pasado el evento dejó $6,500 recaudados a la Academia y este año se espera sean más.

«Necesitamos esos fondos para estos jévenes, que el 90 por ciento de ellos son latinos. Quiero invitar a la comunidad a venir y disfrutar de buena comida y entretenimiento, es una excelente manera de devolver algo a la comunidad», dijo el Oficial Gutiérrez.

For those who love the rich and authentic flavors of Mexican cuisine on October 2 the Santa Barbara Police Department Youth Academy will be organizing its fourth annual “Menudo Festival”.   

For only $10 adults, and $5 children ages 4-12, the attendees can enjoy all you can eat menudo provided by 11 different local restaurants and catering companies.

According to officer Adrían Gutierrez, who created the event to collect funds for the Youth Police Explorer Program of the SBPD, the event will take place at Franklin School, located at 1111 E. Mason Street, Santa Barbara, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m..

“This is a great event not just to taste one of the most delicious Mexican dishes, but also to help dozens of kids to change their life through the Youth Academy,” said Officer Gutierrez, who took the idea for the Festival after being involved in the organization of the Menudo Festival of Santa Maria.

Mr. Gutierrez said the event has gained a lot of polarity among just not the local community but also outside Santa Barbara county.

“Every year we have more and more people coming, the first year we had about 200, last year were about 650 and this year we expect a higher number. We have people coming from Oxnard, Thousand Oaks and even from Los Angeles,” the officer said.

The ticket includes, beside all of the menudo anyone can eat, enjoying music and entertainment for children.

For the first time, in this year’s event the organizers will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers for those who want to try something else.

The participant restaurants are mainly those ones allocated in the area of Milpas street in the Eastside: Los Altos Restaurant, Cesar’s Place, SB Mouse Louge #605, El Bajío Restaurant, La Tapatia Bakery, Taqueria La Colmena, Disfruta, Dave’s Dogs, Tacos Pipeyes, and Sofi’s Hot Dogs.

The restaurants will be also participating to win the title of “Best Menudo in Santa Bárbara”, where in past editions the winners were: SB Mouse Louge and La Tapatia Bakery.

Officer Gutierrez stated that this year the way to elect the winner will be different.

“Before it was a combination of people’s votes and a jury’s vote, but this year every person will get a ballot to put in one of the contestants booths, and whoever gets more votes that will be the winner,” he stated.

At the same time the Officer said that the champion of the “Menudo Festival”, will receive a plaque of recognition and also a trophy, which it will be displayed for a year in its facilities.

Last year the event left $6,500 profit to the Academy and this year they are expecting to collect more.

“We need those funds for this young kids, who 90 percent of them are Latinos. I want to invite the community to come and enjoy great food and entertainment, is a good way to give back to our community,” Officer Gutierrez said.
