Lo hizo otra vez… La Congresista demócrata Julia Brownley no se presentó por tercera vez consecutiva a un debate o foro público en el que iba a verse cara a car con el candidato independiente-republicano, Rafael Dagnesses.

La Congresista para el Distrito 26, que cubre el condado de Ventura, no asistió al «Foro Conozcamos a los Candidatos», organizado por El Consejo de Ministros y moderado por los periódicos Vida y El Latino Costa Central.

«Es una vergüenza y un insulto contra la comunidad, en especial a la comunidad latina. Si el Ventura County Star (Periodico en inglés) habría sido el moderador apuesto a que si habría estado aquí «, indicó un molesto Dagnesses.

El 5 de octubre, Brownley no se presentó para el debate organizado por una organización de veteranos en Simi Valley, a pesar de que su campaña le presume como “una campeona de los héroes de guerra”, hace dos semanas la Congresista también no apareció en el debate organizado por la NACCP en Oxnard.

En ambas ocasiones fue invitada con más de un mes de anticipación.

El evento de esta semana celebrará en la sede Elks Lodge en Oxnard, contó con la participación de cerca de 50 personas, después de uno donde el Pastor puertorriqueño Edgar A. Mahorko recibiera un reconocimiento por sus 30 años de servir a las comunidades de Oxnard y del Condado de Ventura.

“Quiero que sepan que esto me enfada mucho porque hasta ahora, y luego de numerosas llamadas y correos para tratar de confirmar su asistencia, nunca, ella o alguien de su personal me llamaron o escribieron en lo absoluto”, indicó el Pastor Mahorko.

En su lugar, Brownley envió una carta excusando su ausencia que fue leída por otra persona, pero que sonaba más como un discurso político hablando todo lo bueno que ha hecho durante su servicio en el Congreso.

Esto no evito que algunos de los asistentes estuviesen molestos, como es el caso de Marla González.

«Soy un demócrata pero ella (Brownley) está dando una mala imagen del partido y sobre todo de sí misma. Esto es muy irrespetuoso con quienes nos tomamos el tiempo para estar aquí … honestamente no creo que voy a votar por ella», explicó la mujer de 47 años de edad.

Durante la hora que duró el evento, Dagnesses respondió a preguntas difíciles sobre la inmigración, la educación, las pandillas, seguridad pública, así como las cuestiones que afectan a los veteranos y la economía en general.

«Es raro estar aquí solo y respondiendo preguntas que se supone deberían ser también para alguien más. Pero esto es un signo de lo mal que operan los actuales políticos en Washington. Ellos sólo crean divisiones entre las personas trabajadoras para beneficiar solamente a los poderosos y sus mayores donantes», finalizó Dagnesses.

She did it again… The Democrat Congresswoman Julie Brownley didn’t show up for third straight time to a public debate or forum where she was going to face the Independent-Republican candidate, Rafael Dagnesses.

The Congresswoman for the 26th District, which covers Ventura County, did not attend the “Meet the Candidates Forum” organized by the Clergy Council Meeting and moderated by Vida and El Latino Central Coast Newspaper.

“It’s a shame and a disgrace to the community, especially to the Latino community,” said Dagnesses. “If the Ventura County Star would have been the moderator, I bet she would have been here.”

On October 5, she didn’t show up for the debate organized by the Veterans in Simi Valley, even though in her campaign she brags about being a champion for war heroes. Two weeks ago, she also didn’t appear at the debate organized by the NACCP in Oxnard. Both times, she was invited with over a month’s notice.

This week’s event, held at the Elks Lodge building in Oxnard, was attended by nearly 50 people, after the Rev. Edgar A. Mahorko received a reward for 30 years of serving the communities of Oxnard and Ventura county.

«I want you to know this angers me because so far, and after numerous calls and e-mails I sent her to try to confirm her attendance, either she or someone from her staff never called or wrote me back at all to confirm, which I find very disrespectful,» said Rev. Mahorko.

Instead, Brownley sent a representative to read a letter excusing her absence, but the letter sounded more like a political speech listing everything she has done while serving in Congress.

Some of the attendees were very upset, like Marla Gonzalez.

“I am a Democrat, but she (Brownley) is giving a bad image to the party and above all, to herself. This is very disrespectful to the ones who took time out of our lives to be here… honestly I don’t think I will be voting for her,” the 47-year-old woman said.

During the hour-long event, Dagnesses responded to questions on immigration, education, gang and public safety, as well as issues that affect veterans and the economy.

“It’s weird to be here by myself and responding to questions that are supposed to be for somebody else as well,” he said. “But this is a sign of how badly the current politicians in Washington operate. They just create division among the working people to only benefit the powerful and their biggest donors.”
