OXPD investiga ola de homicidios

El Departamento de Policía de Oxnard (OXPD), está investigando el tercer homicidio ocurrido en la ciudad en los últimos tres días.
El 19 de mayo, aproximadamente a las 3:00 de la madrugada, los oficiales del OXPD respondieron a varios llamados 911 de disparos recibidos en la cuadra 2700 de la avenida El Dorado.
Poco después, se informó a una víctima de disparos en la misma zona donde se oyeron los disparos.
Los primeros policías en escena localizaron a la víctima, más tarde identificada como Jorge Coria, de 42 años.
Los agentes administraron primeros auxilios hasta que llegaron los bomberos y el personal de EMS.
Coria fue colocado en una ambulancia y transportado al Centro Médico del Condado de Ventura (VCMC), desafortunadamente ahí el hombre murió en el hospital.
Detectives de la Unidad de Delitos Mayores del Departamento del OXPD y de la Unidad de Delitos Violentos respondieron a la escena y se encargaron de la investigación.
La pesquisa preliminar ha determinado que la víctima tiene afiliación con una pandilla conocida de Oxnard.
El motivo del asesinato es desconocido, pero una posible causa de asuntos de pandillas no ha sido descartada.
Las autoridades, sin embargo, han informado que no hay indicios de que este incidente esté relacionado con los dos homicidios de principios de semana.
Este es el noveno homicidio de Oxnard del año y el tercero en los últimos tres (3) días, ya que el 16 de mayo, Aaron Austin, de 29 años, fue baleado y asesinado en la cuadra 300 de North G Street.
Ese mismo día Eduardo León Viveros, de 23 años, fue también baleado y asesinado en la cuadra 5400 de Perkins Road

El Comandante del OXPD, Scott Whitney, explicó que su entidad está tomando cada uno de estos homicidios de manera personal, «independientemente de las circunstancias».
«Nuestros detectives trabajan día y noche en estos casos para traer justicia a las familias de las víctimas», indicó el Comandante.
Desde marzo de 2017, el OXPD ha detenido a 19 personas por posesión ilegal de armas de fuego.
Como resultado de la actual ola de violencia, los agentes aumentarán su presencia de patrullajes, y también ha aumentado las horas extras y la reasignación de recursos, y hasta la creación de un grupo de investigación especial para centrarse en la violencia reciente.
El grupo de trabajo incluirá personal del FBI y de la Fiscalía del Distrito del Condado de Ventura.
El gerente de la ciudad, Greg Nyhoff, declaró que, ‘la ciudad utilizará los recursos necesarios para apoyar al departamento de policía en sus esfuerzos por mantener a nuestra comunidad a salvo».
Además, otras agencias de aplicación de la ley como el Departamento del Alguacil del Condado de Ventura, el Departamento de Policía de Port Hueneme y la Patrulla de Carreteras de California han ofrecido su asistencia.
El OXPD está pidiendo al público reportar comportamiento sospechoso o actividad criminal a la policía llamando al 911.

OXPD investigate spread of homicides
The Oxnard Police Department (OXPD), is investigating the third homicide to occurred in the city in the last three days.
On May 19 at approximately 3:00 a.m., OXPD officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls of gunshots heard in the 2700 block of El Dorado Avenue.
Shortly thereafter, a shooting victim was reported in the same area where the gunshots were heard.
The first police officers on scene located the victim, later identified as 42-year old Jorge Coria.
The police officers administered first-aid until Fire and EMS personnel arrived.
Coria was placed in an ambulance and transported to the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC). Unfortunately, Coria died at the hospital.
Detectives with the OXPD Department’s Major Crimes Unit and the Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation from patrol officers.
Preliminary investigation has determined that the victim has affiliation with a known Oxnard gang.
The motive for the murder is unknown, but gang motivation has not been ruled out.
There are no indications that this incident is related to the two homicides earlier in the week.
This is Oxnard’s ninth homicide of the year and third within the last three (3) days. First, on May 16th, 29 year old Aaron Austin was shot and killed in the 300 block of North G Street, the same day, 23-year old Eduardo Leon Viveros was also shot and killed in the 5400 block of Perkins Road
OXPD Chief, Scott Whitney, said that his entity is taking every one of these homicides personally, “regardless of the circumstances”.
“Our detectives are working day and night on these cases to bring justice for the victims’ families,” the Chief said.
Since March 2017, the OXPD has arrested 19 individuals for unlawful possession of a firearm.
As a result of agents will be increasing its patrol presence, and also has increased overtime and reallocating resource and creating a special investigative workgroup to focus on the recent violence.
The workgroup will include personnel from the FBI and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
City Manager Greg Nyhoff stated “The city will utilize whatever resources are necessary to support the police department in its efforts to keep our community safe.”
Also, other law enforcement agencies like the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Port Hueneme Police Department and the California Highway Patrol have offered their assistance.
The OXPD is asking the public to report suspicious behavior or criminal activity to police IMMEDIATELY by calling 911.
Stolen weapons and stolen cars are often used to commit violent crimes, authorities urges our residents to lock their vehicles and secure their firearms.
The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction in homicide cases.
