El Departamento de Policía de Ventura (VPD), arrestó a Juan Pablo Valencia de Ventura de 37 años de edad, por cargos de asalto sexual y violación a pacientes hospitalizadas.

Las víctimas eran pacientes psiquiátricas del Hospital Vista del Mar de Ventura, quienes aseguran que Valencia les abusó sexualmente mientras estaban en el hospital y después de su alta.

Según las autoridades, la primera víctima reportó los asaltos en 2013, mientras que el resto de las víctimas lo hicieron en febrero de 2015.

El agresor fue detenido inicialmente en enero del 2015 en la cuadra 2600 de la N Ventura Avenue, pero fue puesto en libertad después de pagar una fianza, sin embargo nuevamente fue arrestado el jueves en la cuadra 600 de Count Square Drive en Ventura.

El criminal, se encuentra recluido en la Cárcel del Condado de Ventura bajo numerosos cargos de asalto sexual, incluyendo violación de una persona intoxicada e institucionalizada.

La investigación está en curso y cualquier persona con información sobre la conducta sexual del sospechoso se puede poner en contacto con el VPD al, 805-339-4328.

ESTAFÓ A ANCIANA

Bajo los cargos de hurto mayor y maltrato a personas de tercera edad, los oficiales del VPD detuvieron a Joseph Anthony Florendo Mele de 30 años.

Mele, quien es un agente de seguros de Ventura, está acusado de robar en el transcurso de varios meses, en 2013 y 2014, aproximadamente $800 mil de una de sus clientes, una residente de Santa Bárbara de 93 años de edad.

De acuerdo al Sargento del Departamento de Policía de Santa Bárbara (SBPD), Riley Harwood, el acusado era asesor financiero de la mujer.

El SBPD se dio cuenta del abuso en octubre cuando el banco de la víctima, el Montecito Bank and Trust, detectó actividad sospechosa en la cuenta de la ésta y notificaron a la Agencia de Servicios de Protección para Adultos.

Así, la detective de Delitos de Propiedad del SBPD, Kristin Shamordola, con la asistencia del Departamento de Seguros de California, tomó el caso.

La investigación reveló que a partir de mayo de 2013, Mele tomó cheques personales en blanco de la víctima y los utilizó para depositar fondos en su cuenta personal.

Los cheques fueron entregados a él por la víctima con fines de inversión, pero la investigación mostraron que no hubo dinero invertido en su nombre.

En cambio los registros bancarios de Mele mostraron que él usó los fondos para su propios gastos de entretenimiento, apuestas y viajes.

A finales de febrero la Detective Shamordola obtuvo una orden de arresto por crimen grave para Mele.

Los oficiales de Ventura y Santa Barbara intentaron sin éxito localizar a Mele en su casa, en las viviendas de sus familiares y hasta a través de su abogado.

El 3 de junio pasado, oficiales del SBPD arrestaron a Mele en la Corte Superior de SB, donde acordó entregarse, para luego ser ingresado en la cárcel del Condado de SB por los cargos antes mencionados.

AUMENTO DE MUERTES POR SOBREDOSIS EN SB

Las autoridades están advirtiendo a la comunidad de los peligros de las drogas, especialmente la heroína después de sólo en los últimos cuatro días, tres residentes del norte del condado de Santa Bárbara han muerto como resultado de aparentes sobredosis.

Primero, el 4 de junio, un hombre de Lompoc 27 años de edad fue encontrado muerto en su residencia, horas más tarde en la misma fecha otro hombre de 32 años de edad, fue encontrado sin vida en una habitación de un hotel en Solvang.

Por si esto no fuese suficiente, otra muerte se reportó el domingo, después que agentes del Departamento del Alguacil de Santa Bárbara encontraron a una mujer de Solvang de 31 años de edad muerta cerca de su residencia, donde su marido también estaba alucinando por los efectos de drogas, y quien fue tomado en custodia por poner en peligro a los dos hijos de la pareja.

La evidencia y la información recopilada durante la indagación inicial de las dos primeras muertes indican que las muertes están asociadas con el consumo de heroína y sobredosis de drogas.

En el caso de la mujer, la investigación indica que su muerte fue el resultado de una sobredosis de drogas, y se cree haber estado presente en la habitación del hotel cuando el primer hombre murió cuatro días antes.

La heroína es un poderoso narcótico ilegal que se distribuye en diferentes formas, que van desde una sustancia como alquitrán de color oscuro, polvo de color marrón, hasta un polvo casi blanco.

Normalmente la heroína se inyecta o se fuma, pero también puede ser ingerida a través de numerosos métodos.

El Departamento del Alguacil de Santa Bárbara dijo que recibió llamadas de numerosos residentes de la zona de Orcutt, afirmando haber recibido llamadas fraudulentas.

Los residentes reportaron haber recibido una llamada telefónica de alguien que se identificó como un agentes del alguacil, diciéndoles que tenían una orden de arresto.

La persona que llama luego exige a sus víctimas información de sus bancos o comprar una tarjeta de crédito de prepago con el fin de pagar la multa y evitar ser arrestados.

«Advertimos a los residentes que nunca den su información personal por teléfono. La Oficina del Alguacil nunca llama a los residentes por teléfono para notificarles de una orden judicial, ni tampoco tomamos ningún tipo de pago de por teléfono», indicó Kelly Hoover vocera del Alguacil.

Ninguno de las personas que reportaron las llamadas fueron víctimas, de acuerdo al Departamento.

Por último, las autoridades recuerdan al público que si reciben una llamada de esta naturaleza, deben comunicarse inmediatamente con el Alguacil, o cualquier otra agencia de la ley del que dice ser la persona que llama, y así verificar la información.

MUERTO EN TIROTEO CON AGENTES

Agentes del Departamento de Policía de SM (SMPD), mataron a un hombre de Santa María sos-pechoso de homicidio el viernes durante un enfrentamiento.

Según un comunicado de prensa del SMPD, oficiales fueron enviados a las 9:36 p.m. a una residencia en la cuadra 300 de West Williams Street por denuncias de violencia doméstica y un posible apuñalamiento,.

Cuando los agentes llegaron, un hombre adentro de la casa les dijo que tenía varias armas de fuego y dispararía a cualquiera que intentara entrar, indicó la policía.

Los oficiales se acercaron e “hicieron frente al sospechoso”, quien fue fatalmente herido, según el comunicado de prensa, después entrar a la escena de los hechos, el hombre fue llevado a un hospital local, donde murió más tarde.

La policía no dijo si el hombre disparó o no durante la confrontación.

Una búsqueda de la residencia reveló que había una mujer muerta.

Los investigadores recuperaron dos armas de fuego de la escena.

El Departamento del Alguacil está investigando al oficial involucrado en el tiroteo, mientras que el SMPD está investigando el homicidio de la mujer.

Police arrested 37-year-old Juan Pablo Valencia of Ventura Thursday on charges of sexual assault and rape of hospital patients.

The victims were psychiatric patients at Vista Del Mar Hospital in Ventura and say Mr. Valencia sexually pursued them and continued to do so after their release.

According to the authorities, the first victim reported the assaults in 2013, with the rest of the victims coming forward in February 2015.

The perpetrator was initially arrested on January 2015 on the 2600 block of N Ventura Avenue, he was released after paying a bail, but then he was again arrested Thursday on the 600 block of Count Square Drive.

He is being held at Ventura County Jail under numerous sexual assault charges including rape of an intoxicated and institutionalized person.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding sexual misconduct by the suspect is urged to contact the Ventura Police Department at 805-339-4328.

Under charges of grand theft and financial elder abuse, officers from the Ventura Police Department (VPD), arrested Joseph Anthony Florendo Mele, 30.

Mr. Mele, 30, who is an insurance agent in Ventura, is accused to steal over the course of several months, in 2013 and 2014, approximately $800 thousand from one of his clients, a 93-year old Santa Barbara resident.

The accused was the woman’s financial advisor, Sgt. Riley Harwood of the Santa Barbara Police Department said in a news release.

Police became aware of the suspected abuse in October, when the victim’s bank, Montecito Bank and Trust, detected suspicious activity on the victim’s account and notified Adult Protective Services.

SBPD Property Crimes Detective, Kristin Shamordola, with assistance from the California Department of Insurance, investigated the case.

The investigation revealed that beginning in May 2013, Mr. Mele took blank personal checks from the victim and used them to deposit funds in his personal account.

The checks were given to him by the victim for investment purposes, but the investigation showed that no money had been invested on her behalf. Instead Mele’s bank records showed that he used it for his own personal expenses, entertainment, gambling, and travel.

On June 3, 2015 SBPD officers arrested Mr. Mele at SB Superior Court, where he agreed to turn himself in, then he was booked into SB County Jail on the aforementioned charges.

INCREASING DEATHS FOR OVER DOSIS

Authorities are warning the community for the dangers of drugs, especially heroin after just in the last four days, three SB County residents have died as result of apparent overdoses in northern Santa Barbara County.

First, on Thursday June 4, a 27-year-old Lompoc man was found deceased within his residence, hours later on the same date, a 32-year-old man was found dead in a Solvang hotel.

Another death was reported on Sunday, after deputies from the Sheriff Department found a 31-year-old Solvang woman deceased near her residence, where her husband was also hallucinating under the effects of drugs, and who was taken in custody for child endangerment.

Evidence and information gathered during the initial investigation of the first two deaths seemed to indicate the deaths were associated with heroin use and drug overdose. 

In the woman’s case, the investigation indicates her death was the result of a drug overdose, although she was believed to be present in the hotel room when the first man died four days earlier. 

SHERRIFF WARNS ORCUTT RESIDENTS FOR SCAMS

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department said it received calls from numerous residents in the Orcutt area claiming to have received fraudulent calls.

The residents reported receiving a phone call from someone who identified himself as a Sheriff’s deputy, and said there was a warrant out for their arrest.

The caller then demanded the residents turn over their financial information or purchase a pre-paid credit card in order to pay the fine and avoid being arrested.

«We caution residents never to give their personal information over the phone. The Sheriff’s Office does not call residents over the phone to notify them of a warrant nor do we take any payments of any kind over the phone,» said Kelly Hoover with the Sheriff’s Office.

None of the reporting parties became victims according to the Sheriff’s office.

Authorities remind the public that if they receive a call of this nature, they should immediately contact the Sheriff’s Office, or any other law enforcement agency where the person claims to be calling from, to verify the information.

MAN KILLED IN SHOOTING

A Santa Maria man suspected of homicide was shot and killed on Friday during a confrontation with police, authorities said.

Santa Maria Police Department (SMPD), were dispatched 9:36 p.m. to a residence in the 300 block of West Williams Street for reports of domestic violence and a possible stabbing, according to a news release by the authorities.

When officers arrived, a man in the home told them he had several firearms and would shoot anyone who tried to enter the residence, police said.

Officers approached and “engaged the suspect,” who was fatally wounded, according to the news release, after clear the scene the man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police did not say whether the man fired any shots. A search of the residence found a woman dead inside.

Investigators recovered two firearms from the scene but their type was not released.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting, while SMPD is investigating the woman’s homicide.
