El Instituto de Educación Superior de Santa Bárbara (SBCC, por sus siglas en inglés), le dedicó el pasado 28 de septiembre su Escuela de Negocios a Jack y Julia Nadel gracias a las aportaciones que a lo largo de los años hizo por la comunidad local.

Este año, los esposos Nadel hicieron una donación de un $1 millón para dedicarla a la implementación de programas de estudio y ayudar a emprendedores a desarrollar sus negocios.

“Este regalo es una demostración vital de la admirable generosidad de Julie Nadel y su liderazgo, y confianza en la excelencia academica del SBCC, indicó Geoff Green, Presidente de la Fundación del SBCC.

Melissa Moreno, miembro del Instituto en el área de educación a distancia, indicó que tenían una cita para almorzar con los esposos Nadel, pero después se enteró de la muerte de Jack, entonces llamó a Julie para expresarle sus condolencias y reprogramar el almuerzo, pero Julie le dijo que no era necesario cambiar la fecha, pues quería seguir adelante con el proyecto para honrar la memoria de Jack.

“Estoy emocionada de honrar el legado de Jack por ayudar a futuras generaciones de empresarios acá en el SBCC», dijo Julie en el evento mientras hablaba de su esposo.

Por su parte, el Presidente del SBCC, Anthony E. Beebe, explicó que las contribuciones de los Nadel son de gran importancia para el futuro de los futuros empresarios locales.

“Las contribuciones de Jack a la comunidad empresarial ayudaron a cimentar y construir la filosofía hacía la educación de negocios del SBCC. Su legado vivirá y sus valores serán inculcados en nuestros estudiantes a travez de sus generosas donaciones», acotó Beebe.

Jack fue un empresario nacido en la ciudad de Nueva York el 4 de octubre de 1923, en  1945 se enlistó en el ejército de los Estados Unidos y participó como piloto durante la segunda guerra mundial y completó 27 misiones sobre Japón.

En 1946 inició su carrera como empresario comprando y vendiendo excedentes de materiales del ejército de los Estados Unidos.

En 1953 fundaría la empresa “Jack Nadel Internacional”.

Autor de varios libros, entre ellos su obra llamada “Como triunfar en los negocios sin mentir, engañar o robar”, publicado en 1993 y enfocado en un estilo de negocios basado en la ética y la honestidad.

Jack murió el 24 de septiembre de 2017 en la ciudad de Santa Bárbara.

El Presidente además dijo que el ejemplo dejado por Jack servirá para dar sabiduria e inspirar a los futuros  estudiantes de negocios.

«Este es un maravilloso regalo para la comunidad de Santa Bárbara», manifestó Beebe a los presentes que se dieron cita en el West Campus del Instituto.

Después de la ceremonia en el interior del edificio de la escuela de Negocios y Comunicaciones, los asistentes a la dedicación de la escuela salieron al exterior del edificio donde se llevó a cabo la tradicional ceremonia del corte del listón que declaraba formalmente inaugurada la» Escuela de Negocios y Empresarios Jack y Julie Nadel».

VICTIMA DE ABUSO SEXUAL NOQUEA A AGRESOR

El sábado pasado a las 8:50 p.m una estudiante de UCSB fue tratada de abusar sexualmente en la cuadra 6600 de Del Playa Drive en Isla Vista, cuando caminaba a casa, sin embargo logró pelear con su atacante.

La mujer de 22 años casi llegaba a El Embarcadero cuando un sospechoso, de sexo masculino, se acercó por detrás y trató de tocar sus partes intímas por encima de su ropa.

La víctima reaccionó, dandóse la vuelta y golpeando al sospechoso en la cara quien luego cayó al suelo.

La víctima huyó a su residencia y se contactó con la Oficina del Alguacil del Condado de Santa Bárbara.

Agentes y policías de la Patrulla de Agentes de la UCSB en Isla Vista, registraron el área pero no pudieron localizar al sospechoso.

La joven describió al sujeto como un hombre blanco de edad universitaria, de aproximadamente 6 pies de alto con el pelo negro, quien llevaba una camisa negra.

Cualquier persona con información sobre la identidad del sospechoso, su paradero o cualquier otro dato, comunicarse con la Patrulla de Isla Vista al, 805-681-4179.

PANDILLEROS ARRESTADOS

Un total de cinco presuntos pandillas pandilleros fueron arrestados el miércoles como parte de una investigación que duró meses sobre la actividad criminal vinculada a la «pandilla del Eastside de Santa Bárbara».

La investigación fue llevada a cabo por el Departamento de Policía de SB conjuntamente con el FBI y el Buró de Alcohol, Tabaco y Armas de Fuego.

Durante la investigación, se incautaron cocaína, metanfetamina y miles de dólares en efectivo.

El miércoles, en Santa Bárbara y Lompoc se llevaron a cabo órdenes de búsqueda y arresto que resultaron en el arresto de cinco sospechosos.

Sergio Díaz (36), residente de Santa Bárbara, ha sido acusado federalmente por Distribución de Cocaína. Javier Zamudio (32), residente de Santa Bárbara, es acusado de Ventas de Cocaína localmente y Participación en una pandilla Criminal.

Adrian Alejandre (29), residente de Santa Bárbara, ha sido acusado federalmente de Distribución de Metanfetaminas al igual que Dennis Cummings (22), de Lompoc, y Robert Sullivan-Seher (48), también de Lompoc.

El Departamento de Policía de Santa Bárbara también agradeció públicamente al FBI ya la ATF por su asistencia durante esta investigación.

On September 28 Santa Barbara City College (SBCC), dedicated its School of Business to Jack and Julia Nadel, to thank them for the contributions they have made over the years to the student community.

This year, the Nadels made a $1 million donation dedicated to the implementation of educative programs and to help future entrepreneurs develop their businesses.

«This gift is a remarkable demonstration of Julie Nadel’s generosity, leadership, and confidence in the educational excellence of SBCC,» said Geoff Green, Executive Director of the SBCC Foundation.

Melissa Moreno, a member of the education department at SBCC indicated she was going to have lunch with the Nadels, but later she learned of Jack’s death, so she called Julie to express her condolences and reschedule lunch.

Instead the now widow told her that it was not necessary to change the date, because she wanted to go ahead to honor her husband’s memory.

«I’m excited to honor Jack’s legacy by helping future generations of entrepreneurs here at the SBCC,» Julie said at the event when talking about her husband.

Author of several books, including his work called «How to Succeed in Business Without Lying, Deceiving or Stealing,» Mr. Nadel died just weeks ago, on September 24 in Santa Barbara.

Also, speaking at the event was Anthony E. Beebe, SBCC’s President, who explained that the contributions of the Nadels  are of great importance for the local future entrepreneurs.

After the ceremony inside the building of the School of Business and Communications, those attending at West Campus went outside the building where the traditional ceremony of ribbon cutting took place.

With that, the SBCC’s authorities officially inaugurated the “Jack & Julie Nadel School of Business & Enteprenurship”.

Mr. Nadel was an entrepreneur born in New York City on October 4, 1923. In 1945 the future business man enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a pilot during World War II and completed 27 missions in Japan.

In 1946 he began his career as an entrepreneur buying and selling surplus materials from the United States Army.

In 1953 he founded his company: «Jack Nadel International».

«I am thrilled to honor Jack’s groundbreaking business legacy by fostering future generations of entrepreneurs here at Santa Barbara City College,» the widow said about her husband’s successful career in business.

SEX ASSAULT VICTIM KO AGGRESSOR IN IV

Last Saturday at approximately 8:50 p.m a UCSB student was sexually battered while walking home in the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive in Isla Vista, but she managed to fight back at her attacker.

The 22-year-old female was approaching El Embarcadero when a male suspect walked up from behind her and grabbed her crotch through her clothing.

The victim reacted by turning around and punching the suspect in the face who subsequently fell to the ground.

The victim went back to her residence and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office was contacted.

Deputies and UCSB Police officers with the Isla Vista Foot Patrol searched the area but were not able to locate the suspect.

He is described as a college aged Caucasian male, about 6 feet tall with black hair and was wearing a black colored shirt.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect, his whereabouts or any other data contact the Isla Vista Foot Patrol at, 805-681-4179.

GANG MEMBERS ARRESTED

Five suspected gang members were arrested Wednesday as part of a months-long investigation into criminal activity linked to the «Santa Barbara Eastside Gang.»

The investigation was conducted by the SB Police Department in conjunction with the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.

During the investigation, cocaine, methamphetamine and thousands of dollars in cash were seized.

On Wednesday, search and arrest warrants were served in both Santa Barbara and Lompoc that resulted in the arrest of five suspects.

Sergio Diaz, 36, of SB was indicted federally on Distribution of Cocaine.

The Santa Barbara Police Department thanked publicly the FBI and ATF for their assistance during this involved investigation. ν

FIRE IN SANTA YNEZ

The suspects in a large-scale fraud and embezzlement case involving the misappropriation of $1.7 million of Santa Barbara County funds were arraigned on Monday.

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley filed a 27-page count complaint against the nine suspects: Lynn Gay Hogan, Wendy Sue Puchli, Michelle Louise Lavin, Richard Edward Kaplinski, Jr., Vincent Ray Anzivino, Michael Elliott, Christina Huffman, Leanna Yumiko Harada, and Michael Edward Anzivino.

Hogan, a county public works accountant, is accused of misappropriation of public funds, forgery and conspiracy to commit a crime. The complaint alleges that Hogan issued fake vendor numbers in order to be issued refund checks made out to the eight other defendants. The complaint also alleges that Hogan deposited the illegally obtained funds into a bank account belonging to Tri-Valley Youth Football Conference.

The additional defendants are accused of depositing the illegally obtained funds into their personal bank accounts.

The complaint alleges that Hogan created the false vendors and obtained refund checks for over nine years between May 2008 and July 2017.

The fire scorched approximately 139 acres. All forward progress of the fire was stopped by firefighters just before 3 p.m., according to Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni. Crews stayed on scene putting out hot spots.

There were no injuries but a Gainey winery processing facility was threatened at the peak of the fire. However, crews were able to prevent any damage to that processing facility.

Personnel from Los Padres Forest Service assisted county firefighters. Crews mounted an aggressive attack on the fire with the addition of two helicopters and two air tankers making drops on the flames.

All inbound and outbound aircraft were temporarily stopped due to the fire, according to emergency traffic radio.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

CAMARILLO

A Ventura man will spend six months in jail for his part in causing a 2014 explosion at Santa Clara Waste Water Company in Santa Paula.

Kenneth Douglas Griffin, Jr., 22, of Ventura will also be placed on probation for three years after he was sentenced in Ventura County District Court on Thursday.

Griffin was an on-site supervisor at Santa Clara Waste Water Company when the explosion happened. Multiple employees and first responders were injured by the explosion or from toxic gas at the facility.

Griffin was involved in moving chemicals from the facility to an off-site storage lot to avoid enforcement efforts by the Ventura County Environmental Health Division. Griffin also failed to warn employees of the presence of a hazardous material known as sodium chlorite. He also failed to provide sufficient warning regarding chemicals that were mislabeled or entirely unlabeled at the facility.

Griffin will begin his jail sentence on October 13. He will also be forced to pay victim restitution, the amount of which will be determined at a later date.

He is also prohibited from supervising over employees handling hazardous materials while on probation.
