Un oficial del Departamento de Policía de Santa Bárbara (SBPD) que estaba fuera de servicio, fue arrestado después de que se publicaron en las redes sociales las de que estaba bajo la influencia del alcohol, y se involucró en una pelea dentro de un club nocturno local.
El agente involucrado fue identificado como Marco Pavico, un nuevo oficial de policía de la Universidad de California Santa Bárbara (UCSB).

Una investigación criminal por parte del SBPD y una investigación de licencia de investigación por parte del Departamento de Policía de UCSB aún están en curso.

Palazuelos intentó descartar un cuchillo antes de que los agentes la detuvieran. La víctima fue transportada al Centro Médico Regional de Saint John, donde recibió tratamiento por laceraciones en el lado izquierdo de la barbilla y la mejilla, así como laceraciones en el interior de las palmas.
LADRÓN DE CORREO DETENIDO
Después de una parada de tráfico, dos agentes de la Policías de Oxnard (OXPD), arrestaron a un hombre de 22 años sospechoso de robar un paquete de una residencia en otra parte de la ciudad.
Todo inició a las 3:15 p.m. el jueves en el área de Rose Avenue y Lockwood Street, donde los oficiales detuvieron al conductor bajo sospecha de una violación de transito.
Durante la parada, el oficial notó que el conductor actuaba sospechosamente, por lo que hizo una búsqueda en el vehículo, donde localizó una bolsa que contenía correo asociado con varias direcciones.
El agente contactó al propietario de un paquete asociado con una dirección en Deckside Drive, y él le indicó que le faltaba un paquete que debía haber llegado hace un par de días.
También notó que su buzón estaba abierto y vacío desde hace varios días, asegurando que era inusual.
También otro pasajero en el vehículo estaba en libertad condicional lo que permitió el cateo, dijo la policía.
A través de una investigación, el agente determinó que un hombre de 22 años de Oxnard era sospechoso de robo de propiedad privada, y fue detenido bajo sospecha de delito menor de robo de correo y enviado a la cárcel del Condado, informó la policía.
El OXPD exhorta a los residentes a tener un buzón o ranura de correo protegidos, así como un entorno bien iluminado y un sistema de vigilancia en el hogar pueden ayudar a disuadir a los delincuentes y prevenir el robo de correo.

Por su parte, el «Virtuosos Award» Presentado por UGG honrará a Awkwafina (The Farewell), Taron Egerton (Rocketman), Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), Aldis Hodge (Clemency), George MacKay (1917), Florence Pugh (Little mujeres, Midsommar) y Taylor Russell (Waves).
El “Premio a las Actuaciones del Año” honrará a Scarlett Johansson y Adam Driver el viernes 17 de enero a las 8 p.m.
«The American Riviera Award» honrará a Renee Zellweger el jueves 16 de enero, en el Teatro Arlington.
El Variety Artisans Award honrará a una docena de productores de música, productores y talentos que trabajan detrás de cámaras en películas como «Frozen 2», «The Joker», «Ford vs Ferrari» y el «Rey León», entre otros.
Estos premios se entregarán el domingo 19 de enero en el Teatro Lobero.
Se esperan más de 200 películas nacionales e internacionales y numerosas películas de estreno.
El festival también contará con documentales, cortometrajes, películas locales y producciones estudiantiles.
Así como la sección de Cine Latinoamericano y Español que es una de las más populares en los 10 días que durará el evento.
El SBIFF es uno de los festivales de cine más prestigiosos del país y en el mundo del cine, está programado del 15 al 25 de enero.
Se llevará a cabo en los cines de todo el centro con una variedad de eventos de mañana a tarde.
También es uno de los lugares únicos donde los nominados a los Premios de la Academia harán una aparición pública para hablar sobre sus carreras y conocer a los fanáticos, cerca de Hollywood, antes de la ceremonia del Oscar.
UN SEGURIDAD ES DETENIDO EN VENTURA
Un hombre que trabajaba como seguridad o” bouncer” en un club nocturno local fue arrestado por la policía de Ventura después de que estalló una pelea frente al bar en Ventura el sábado por la noche.
El Centro de Comando del Departamento de Policía de Ventura recibió múltiples llamadas al 911 informando una pelea física entre varias personas frente a The Tavern en East Santa Clara Street.
La policía y paramédicos respondieron a la escena alrededor de las 11:30 p.m. y encontró que una persona, un hombre de 37 años, había sufrido una lesión en la cabeza que no le amenazaba la vida.
Durante la investigación, los agentes descubrieron que la víctima y varios de sus amigos habían estado bebiendo y se les negó la entrada al bar.
Uno de los acompañantes de la víctima tuvo una discusión verbal con los guardias, desatándose una pelea que terminó en la calle frente al bar.

A Santa Barbara Police Department officer who was off-duty was arrested after a social media post awareness authorities he was under the influence of alcohol, and became engaged in an argument inside a local night club.
The officer involved was identified as Marco Pavico, a new University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) police officer.
During the argument, which allegedly occurred early Sunday morning on December 15th, the police officer displayed his badge and firearm in a non-official capacity.
Within minutes of becoming aware of the post, the Santa Barbara Police Department devoted abundant resources to begin investigating the accuracy of the serious on-line allegations.
Pavico was arrested by SBPD Detectives for battery and brandishing a firearm and he was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
Due to the serious allegation, and the authority/trust bestowed upon police officers, the Chief of Police at UCSB acted swiftly and placed Pavico on investigatory leave, seizing his Department issued firearm and suspending his police powers pending further investigation.
A criminal investigation by the Santa Barbara Police Department and an investigatory leave investigation by the UCSB Police Department is still ongoing.
STABBING IN OXNARD
Officers responded to Eliza Court and First Street where they located the crime scene.
They followed a blood trail to a nearby residence on Eliza Court.
While there they could hear a male and a female voice from inside of the residence. The female sounded as if she was struggling and in distress. Officers made entry into the residence and located Raul Palazuelos mounted on top of the female victim, 25 years of age.
Palazuelos had his hands around the woman’s neck and was attempting to strangle her.
Palazuelos attempted to discard a knife before being taken into custody by officers The female victim was transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where she received treatment for lacerations to the left side of her chin and cheek as well as lacerations to the inside of her palms.
MAIL THEFT ARRESTED
After a traffic stop Oxnard police officers arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of stealing a package from a residence elsewhere in the city, the OXPD informed.
Everything initiated at 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of Rose Avenue and Lockwood Street, where the officers pulled over the driver on suspicion of a vehicle code violation.
During the traffic stop, the officer noticed the driver acting suspiciously.
During a search of the vehicle, the officer located a bag containing mail associated with various addresses.
The officer contacted the owner of one package associated with an address on Deckside Drive, he said he was missing a package that was due to arrive a couple days ago.
He also noticed his mailbox was open and empty, a couple days ago, which he said was unusual.
Also a passenger in the vehicle was on probation with terms that allow searches, police said.
Through an investigation, police determined a 22-year-old Oxnard man was a suspect in the package theft.
The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of misdemeanor mail theft and booked into county jail, police reported.
The Oxnard Police Department advises having a protected mailbox or mail slot, well-lit surroundings and home surveillance system can help deter criminals and prevent mail theft.
BRAD PITT SHINES FOR THE SBIFF
The lineup for the highly anticipated 35th Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) was announced on Monday by Executive Director Roger Durling.
Durling also did the unveiling of this year’s poster, with a design that will be featured in programs and ads for the event.
Over 200 national and international movies and numerous premiere films are expected.
The festival will also have documentaries, shorts, local films and student productions.
The SBIFF is one of the most prestigious film festival in the country and in the world of film, it is scheduled for January 15 through 25th.
It will take place in theaters throughout downtown with a variety of morning through evening event times.
It is also one of the unique locations where Academy Award nominees will make a public appearance discuss their careers and meet fans, close to Hollywood, before the Oscar ceremony.
This year’s line up is topped by Brad Pitt.
He will be receiving the “Maltin Modern Masters Award”, Wednesday January 22, at 8 p.m. in the Arlington Theatre.
“The Cinema Vanguard Award” will be presented to Laura Dern Tuesday January 21, at 8 p.m. in the Arlington Theatre.

BOUNCER ARRESTED IN VENTURA
A man working as a bouncer in a local night club was arrested by Ventura Police after a fight broke out in front of the bar in Ventura Saturday night.
The Ventura Police Department Command Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a physical fight between several people in front of The Tavern on East Santa Clara Street.
Ventura City Police and AMR responded to the scene around 11:30 p.m. and found one person, a 37-year-old man, had sustained a non-life threatening head injury.
During the investigation, officers discovered that the victim and several of his friends had been drinking and were refused entry to the bar.
One of the victim’s friends then got into a verbal argument with the bouncers.
The fight turned physical and ended up in the street in front of the bar.
It was around this time that one of the bouncers, identified as 24-year-old Alex Stewart, choked the victim and hit him several times over the head with a flashlight.
Further investigation revealed that Stewart used unnecessary force, according to police.
He was arrested and booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
He was later released with a court hearing scheduled on January 15, according to jail records.
