A pilot was killed Saturday afternoon when a single-engine plane crashed into two homes in a Simi Valley neighborhood, sparking a fire, authorities from the Ventura County Fire Department said.
The crash occurred around 1:51 p.m. in the 200 block of High Meadow Street in the Wood Ranch area, prompting a second-alarm fire response due to the blaze that followed the impact.
Officials said the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft—a Vans RV-10—died at the scene. No injuries were reported among the residents of the affected homes, despite both being occupied at the time of the crash.
Property damage and emergency response
Aerial footage from AIR7 showed one home suffered significant roof damage, with debris scattered across the property. A neighboring house appeared to have sustained minor damage. A total of 40 firefighters responded to the scene and quickly brought the fire under control.
«It was a very delicate situation, but fortunately, none of the residents were hurt,» a fire department spokesperson said.
Investigation underway
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the aircraft had departed from William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster and was en route to Camarillo Airport when it went down.
“The Vans RV-10 crashed near High Meadow Street and Wood Ranch Parkway at around 2:10 p.m. local time on Saturday,” the FAA said in a statement. “The pilot was alone on board. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate.”
The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide further updates regarding the cause of the crash.
The incident has raised concern among local residents, as no similar aviation accidents had been reported in the area in recent years.
