The Ventura County Fire Department informed the Mountain Fire has crossed Highway 118, now threatening the Camarillo Heights area, prompting evacuation orders.
Officials urge residents to comply for their safety and several people have been injured and transported to local hospitals.
The fire that started around 9:00 a.m. is threatening numerous homes in the area as Santa Ana winds, reaching speeds up to 100 mph, continue to fuel the flames.
Over 20 homes in Camarillo and six more in Moorpark have been lost so far.
Ventura County Sheriff, Jim Fryhoff, stated they have reached over 14,000 emergency contact through the emergency system VC Alert app.
“Numerous structures are at risk, due to high winds, fixed-wing aircraft are unable to assist; however, ground crews, helicopters, and mutual aid resources are actively working to protect lives and property,” said the VCFD.
According to live coverage by different news outlets the Mountain Fire has crossed Highway 118 and is now impacting the Camarillo Heights area where it burnt over 12 houses.
“Evacuation orders are in effect, and we urge residents to follow these orders for their safety. Several individuals have been injured and transported to local hospitals,” said the VCFD.
Due to extreme wind conditions, fixed-wing aircraft are unable to assist in firefighting efforts. Ground crews, helicopters and mutual aid resources are actively working to protect lives and property.
