Their investigation identified Camarillo resident Stanislav Skudarnov as the primary suspect. Detectives gathered sufficient evidence to establish probable cause for a violation of California Penal Code Section 30605(a) — [Possession of an Assault Rifle].

In early January 2025, detectives obtained a search warrant authorized by a Ventura County Superior Court magistrate to investigate Skudarnov’s residence. On January 7, 2025, members of the SEU and Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) executed the search warrant.

During the search, detectives found two AR-15 lower receivers, one of which was un-serialized and appeared self-manufactured — commonly known as a “ghost gun.” They also discovered an un-serialized Sig Sauer P320 pistol, an AR-15 upper receiver, multiple high-capacity magazines, and hundreds of rounds of various ammunition.

Following the search, detectives arrested Skudarnov for the following charges:

• PC 30605(a) – [Possession of Assault Weapon]

• PC 27545 – [Unlawful Transfer of Firearm]

• PC 30600(a) – [Transport, Import, Manufacture Assault Weapon]

Skudarnov was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, with bail set at $100,000.

The term “ghost gun” refers to firearms without serial numbers, making them untraceable by law enforcement. These firearms can also be transferred without going through a licensed dealer, further complicating tracking efforts.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support and information that helps law enforcement solve crimes. “We are better at what we do because of our community partnerships,” a spokesperson said.
