The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced today that William Cornelis Boer (1963), of Moorpark, has been charged with two felony counts of attempted murder, one felony count of possessing explosives, and one felony count of attempting to set fire to a structure.
On September 10, Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies from the Moorpark Police Station responded to a call for service. When deputies arrived, they learned the victim had returned to the residence she shared with her estranged husband. Boer is accused of turning on the gas to the stove and placing propane tanks inside the home. When he allegedly attempted to ignite a lighter, the woman fled the residence. Boer barricaded himself inside.
During the standoff, Boer is charged with firing a weapon at law enforcement personnel stationed outside. No officers were injured. At approximately 8:00 p.m., Boer surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Investigators later recovered a long rifle and a pistol from the residence.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Erin Meister, Supervisor of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Unit, is prosecuting the case.
Boer’s arraignment was continued to October 11, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 13 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He remains in custody without bail.
