Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that John Edward Kalil (DOB 07/11/96), of Oxnard, has been sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison for the molestation of two children under the age of 14.

Kalil was convicted by a jury on April 28, 2025, on six felony counts of child molestation. The jury also found true the special allegations that there were multiple victims and that Kalil engaged in substantial sexual conduct.
According to prosecutors, the abuse occurred between 2016 and 2020 in the home the victims shared with Kalil. Both children were under the age of 14 at the time of the assaults. Kalil gained access to them through a familial relationship, and the abuse continued for several years.
The victims came forward after the arrest of another family member who was also allegedly molesting them. Their disclosures led to Kalil’s arrest and eventual conviction.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Stuart Gardner, a member of the Sexual Assault Unit of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
“Closure is so important to the healing process,” Gardner stated. “Today, the victims can fully rest knowing they will never have to endure another day of sexual abuse committed by this defendant. It is my hope that this significant sentence not only eliminates the fear of physical or mental abuse but affords the victims a sense of security that will be restorative.”
Kalil’s sentencing represents one of the most severe child molestation penalties handed down in Ventura County in recent years, reflecting the gravity and long-term trauma caused by his repeated abuse.
