On February 17, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) responded to a call for service in the area of Hemlock St. and Elsinore reference a subject seen in possession of a firearm.
Upon arriving, officers attempted to make contact with the possible suspect, identified as Mario Hernandez, who fled from officers.
As Hernandez fled he was observed discarding a short barreled shotgun into the rear yard of a residence.
Officers arrested Hernandez after a brief foot pursuit and recovered the shotgun.
Hernandez was also found to be in possession of fentanyl and narcotic paraphernalia.
Hernandez was arrested for several firearms and narcotics violations.
Officers immediately recognized Hernandez from his last arrest, which occurred eight days prior when Special Enforcement Unit officers arrested Hernandez for violating the terms of his parole.
Hernandez is a documented Oxnard criminal street gang member who is on parole for assault with a deadly weapon and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
