Warren Luther Alexander, a suspected serial killer from Diamondhead, Mississippi, has been ordered to stand trial for the murders of three women in 1977.
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Paul Feldman ruled on the matter Friday after a three-day preliminary hearing.
Alexander, 73, is accused of killing Kimberly Carol Fritz, Velvet Ann Sanchez, and Lorraine Ann Rodriguez. Autopsies in all three cases determined the victims were strangled. DNA evidence from the crime scenes linked Alexander to the killings, according to prosecutors.
During the hearing, 13 witnesses testified, including three DNA analysts and a fingerprint examiner. Five of the witnesses had been involved in the original investigation.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Cold Case Unit reopened the investigation in February 2023. Alexander was extradited to California from Surry County, North Carolina, where he is also facing charges for a 1992 cold case murder. He arrived in Ventura County on August 6, 2024.
Alexander’s arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 1 at Ventura County Superior Court. He is being held without bail at the Ventura County Jail.
