Jesus Gonzalez-Arteaga, 44, was found guilty by a jury on April 9, 2026, of six felony counts related to the molestation and rape of a minor, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. The charges included continuous sexual abuse of a child, three counts of unlawful sexual acts with a child under 10, forcible rape, and possession of child sexual abuse material.

All special allegations and aggravating circumstances were found to be true, including that the defendant inflicted great bodily injury during the commission of the rape. That finding makes his sentence mandatory life in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to prosecutors, the abuse occurred between 2018 and 2024, beginning when the victim was 6 years old and continuing until she was 11. Authorities said the defendant gained access to the child through a familial relationship and shared living arrangement.

The victim eventually disclosed the abuse to a trusted family member, which led to a report to law enforcement and the subsequent investigation.

Officials emphasized the courage it takes for victims of abuse to come forward, particularly in cases involving family members or close acquaintances.

The case was prosecuted by Twyla Atmore, a senior deputy district attorney assigned to the Sexual Assault Unit. In a statement, Atmore said the conviction reflects both the severity of the crimes and the importance of holding offenders accountable.

“The defendant committed the ultimate betrayal of a child he was supposed to protect,” she said. “Although the victim will likely suffer the effects of this abuse for the rest of her life, the jury’s swift and just verdict ensures he will never harm another child.”

Erik Nasarenko, Ventura County’s district attorney, announced the conviction and reaffirmed the office’s commitment to prosecuting crimes against children.

Gonzalez-Arteaga is scheduled to be sentenced on May 7, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 26 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He faces a mandatory sentence of life without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 91 years and eight months.
He remains in custody without bail.
