Gamboa also faces special allegations, including the use of a deadly weapon, infliction of great bodily injury, and committing a crime involving significant violence. He made his initial court appearance on January 14, 2025, though the arraignment was postponed.

The charges stem from the alleged killing of Ms. Pitts inside a hotel room in Thousand Oaks. On January 6, 2025, Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the hotel and discovered her body in the room. Gamboa, who had sustained self-inflicted injuries, was taken to a local hospital, where he remained until January 10, 2025. Upon being discharged, he was arrested and charged with murder.

The case is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Amber Lee of the Ventura County Major Crimes Unit.

Gamboa’s arraignment has been rescheduled for February 10, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 13 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He remains in custody without bail.
