The Ventura Fire Department has begun deploying a new fleet of LIFEPAK 35 cardiac monitor defibrillators, a move officials say marks a major step forward in emergency medical care across the city.
The department has purchased 20 LIFEPAK 35 units, replacing older models that had been in use for more than 15 years.
Each of the city’s fire units will now be equipped with the new technology. The $1.28 million acquisition was approved by the City Council in July last year, with funding provided through the city’s General Fund. Field testing of the devices began in January 2025 to ensure a smooth transition.
“This investment demonstrates our City’s commitment to public safety and to equipping our first responders with the most advanced tools available,” said Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios. “We are proud to lead the way in Southern California with this innovative technology, which ensures faster, smarter care when it matters most.”
The LIFEPAK 35 is the latest in a line of advanced cardiac care equipment.
The device provides more accurate diagnostics, enhanced patient monitoring, and improved treatment capabilities on scene. Ventura is the first fire department in Southern California to implement the new model, placing the city at the forefront of pre-hospital emergency medical services.
Fire Chief David Endaya said the devices allow paramedics to better assess and treat cardiac emergencies in real time.
“Deploying the new LIFEPAK 35 units into the field enhances our ability to deliver life-saving care with greater precision,” Endaya said. “These advanced tools allow our paramedics to assess, treat, and monitor cardiac emergencies faster and more accurately than ever before. We’re proud to be at the forefront of bringing this technology to Ventura.”
The investment underscores the city’s ongoing efforts to modernize public safety infrastructure and improve outcomes for patients experiencing heart-related medical emergencies.
