Son joins as a Designated Player through 2027, with an option for 2028 and a further extension through June 2029. He will occupy an international roster slot and will be eligible to play once his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC) are finalized.

The club will introduce Son at a press conference today at BMO Stadium at 2 p.m. PT. The event will be livestreamed.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest Asian players in football history, Son leaves the Premier League after a decade with Tottenham, where he scored 173 goals and contributed 101 assists in all competitions. He became the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot during the 2021–22 season.

Captain of the South Korean national team, Son has represented his country in three FIFA World Cups and four AFC Asian Cups. He has over 130 international appearances and 51 goals for South Korea. In 2018, he led the team to a gold medal at the Asian Games.

Son joins a list of international stars who have signed with LAFC, including Carlos Vela, Giorgio Chiellini, Olivier Giroud, and former Tottenham teammates Gareth Bale and Hugo Lloris.

“I’m incredibly proud to join LAFC, a club with big ambitions in one of the world’s most iconic sports cities,” Son said. “I’ve come to lift trophies and give everything to this club, this city and the fans. I can’t wait to get started.”

A native of Chuncheon, South Korea, Son debuted professionally with Hamburg SV in Germany at age 18. He moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 and scored 21 goals in 62 matches before signing with Tottenham in 2015. While at Spurs, he was twice named Club Player of the Year, selected to the PFA Team of the Year, and helped lead the club to the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final.

His solo goal against Burnley in December 2019 earned him the FIFA Puskás Award for goal of the year. As Tottenham captain in 2023, Son led the club to the 2025 UEFA Europa League title — its first trophy in 17 years.

“Bringing Sonny to LAFC and to our city has been a dream of ours for several years,” said LAFC lead managing owner Bennett Rosenthal. “His signing is a statement of our commitment to excellence and our ambition to continue building our reputation on the global football stage. He will inspire fans in L.A., across Southern California, and around the world.”
