District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Joseph Lynn Johnson, 46, of Port Hueneme, has been found guilty by a jury of raping an incompetent person. A judge also found true the aggravating factor that the victim was particularly vulnerable.

The incident occurred in February 2020, when Johnson was caught engaging in sexual activity with a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The assault took place at a home in Port Hueneme.
Johnson was a family friend of the victim, who was under the care of her daughter. Authorities said the daughter briefly stepped away to take a shower and returned to find Johnson on top of her mother in the bedroom.
Deputy District Attorney Emily Reber, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit, prosecuted the case.
“We are grateful to the jury for their careful deliberation and for delivering a verdict that brings justice to the victim,” Reber said. “This defendant exploited the vulnerability of a woman who deserved care and dignity, not manipulation and harm.”
Joseph Lynn Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on May 22, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in courtroom 14 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He faces eight years in state prison.
Johnson has been remanded into custody at the Ventura County Jail.
