A Kern County man who worked as an Uber driver has been charged with raping an unconscious passenger after picking her up outside a bar in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County prosecutors announced Thursday.
Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said Simranjit Singh Sekhon, 35, of Bakersfield, is charged with rape of an unconscious person, along with a sentencing enhancement alleging the victim was particularly vulnerable. Sekhon made his first court appearance for arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty.
According to prosecutors, the alleged assault occurred at about 1 a.m. on Nov. 27, 2025, after Sekhon picked up the victim outside a bar in Thousand Oaks to take her home to Camarillo.
Authorities said the victim was intoxicated and fell asleep during the ride. Instead of ending the trip as scheduled, Sekhon allegedly continued driving the unconscious passenger around Camarillo and sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said.
The case was investigated by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, which arrested Sekhon in Los Angeles County on Dec. 15, 2025, according to authorities.
The prosecution is being handled by Senior Deputy District Attorney Twyla Atmore, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit.
Sekhon is scheduled to appear for an early disposition conference on Dec. 29, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He remains in custody with bail set at $500,000.
