La “Época de Oro” del cine mexicano es bien conocida en todo el mundo y más entre los latinos, por lo que el Centro para las Artes Escénicas de Santa Bárbara en conjunto con el Teatro de Granada estarán presentando una serie de cinco películas clásicas de esa era.
«El Granada cuenta con un Comité donde Monique Limón (Miembro de la Junta del y Helene Schneider (Alcalde de Santa Bárbara) son parte de el, y el Granada les preguntó cómo podrían atraer más a la comunidad latina, por lo que ellas presentaron esta idea que será genial», indicó Mark Alvarado Supervisor de Desarrollo para el Departamento de Parques y Recreaciones.
«Ahí está el detalle» (27 de septiembre), “Santo el Enmascarado de Plata», (13 de diciembre),»Nosotros los pobres» (20 de marzo) y «Allá en el Rancho Grande»(22 de mayo) se mostrarán en versiones remasterizadas de alta definición en el Teatro Granada.
La película «Ahí está el detalle», protagonizada por el legendario comediante mexicano, Mario Moreno «Cantinflas» y dirigida por Juan Bustillo Oro, será la película que abrirá la muestra y fue la duodécima película en la carrera de “Cantinflas”, la cual es considerada como una de sus mejores cintas por críticos del cine mexicano, así como una de las mejores películas de todos los tiempos en México.
La serie, que es una nueva iniciativa del Centro Jurkowitz para la Participación Comunitaria, fue un esfuerzo curatorial en grupo, donde las cintas fueron seleccionadas por un comité formado por profesionales latinos, entre ellos profesores de cine y expertos de la UCSB y la Universidad de Texas.
«Esta es una manera de presentarles y darle a conocer a los latinos que el Granada está abierto también a ellos. Queremos que el Granada sea un espacio activo de la comunidad y que todos puedan ir y disfrutar de su belleza y sus espectáculos», indicó.
Al mismo tiempo, Alvarado dijo que están planeando una gala de inauguración, a la que tratan de traer a una de las principales celebridades mexicanas de Hollywood.
«Estamos en conversaciones con par de ellos, aún no podemos revelar más detalles, sólo que estamos trabajando en hacer de este evento algo que los latinos y de toda la comunidad disfruten».
El funcionario también dijo que mostrando estas películas en la gran pantalla están mostrando respeto por la cultura mexicana y latina.
«Queremos mostrar a la comunidad local que los latinos tienen talento en muchos otros aspectos culturales y que hemos logrado hacer cosas que son admiradas en todo el mundo”, finalizó.

The “Golden Age of Mexican Cinema” is a well known phenomenon around the world and among Latinos, therefore The Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts with the Granada Theater will be organizing a film series showcasing five classic films from that era.

“The Granada has a Committee that Monique Limon and (Santa Barbara Mayor) Helene Schneider are part of it, then the Granada asked how to reach the Hispanic Community so they presented this idea that would be great,” said Mark Alvarado with Park and Recreations.

“Ahí está el Detalle” (September 27th), Santo el Enmascarado de Plata”, (December 13th), “Nosotros Los Pobres” (March 20th) and “Allá en el Rancho Grande” (May 22nd) will be shown in a remastered high definition version at the Granada Theater.

The film “Ahí Está el Detalle”, starring the legendary Mexican comedian, Mario Moreno ‘Cantinflas’ and directed by Juan Bustillo Oro, will be the first film of the series to be shown and It was the twelfth film in Cantinflas’s career, considered one of his best by Mexican film critics, as well as one of Mexico’s best films of all time.

The series, a new initiative of the Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement, was a group curatorial effort, that was chosen by a committee formed by Latino professionals among film professors and experts from UCSB and the University of Texas.

“This is a way to introduced and show Latinos that the Granada is open to them as well. We want the Granada to be a community asset and that everyone can come and enjoy its beauty and its shows,” said Mr. Alvarado.

At the same time, Mr. Alvarado said that they are planning an opening gala, to which they are trying to book a major Hollywood Mexican celebrity.

“We are in talks with couple of them, we cant disclose details but we are working on making this event something that Latinos and the whole community will enjoy”.

He also said, showing these films on the big screen is showing respect for the culture.

“We want to show the local community that Latinos have talent in many other cultural aspects and that we have achieved big things that are admire around the world,” he said.

The cost of the tickets has yet not been announced but organizers plan to reveal it in the coming days.
