Pedro Ocampo Alvarez, 58, of Oxnard, was convicted November 4, 2026, of 11 felony counts involving the sexual abuse of a child, according to Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko.
Alvarez waived his right to a jury trial and chose to have his case decided by Ventura County Superior Court Judge Paul Feldman, who found him guilty following a court trial.
The convictions include four counts of lewd acts upon a child, three counts of using a child for sex acts, two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child 10 years old or younger, one count of oral copulation with a child 10 years old or younger, and one count of possessing child pornography.
The court also found true special allegations that the case involved substantial sexual conduct and that the victim was particularly vulnerable.
Neighbors Helped Bring the Abuse to Light
According to prosecutors, the case dates back to August 2022, when Alvarez was living in a converted shed behind a residence in Oxnard.
Neighbors witnessed Alvarez touching the private parts of a 10-year-old girl who lived in the main house on the property. They alerted the child’s mother, who subsequently contacted the Oxnard Police Department.
Officers who responded to the residence spoke with the victim, who disclosed that Alvarez had been sexually abusing her for approximately one year.
During a subsequent interview with investigators, Alvarez admitted to molesting the child over the previous year. He also acknowledged recording videos of the abuse, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation led to the criminal charges against Alvarez, who ultimately waived a jury trial and submitted the case to a judge for a decision.
Defendant Faces Up to Life in Prison
Deputy District Attorney Tessa McCarty, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit, prosecuted the case.
Following the conviction, McCarty expressed gratitude to the victim for her courage and participation in the legal proceedings.
“I am deeply grateful to the victim for her bravery and strength throughout this process,” McCarty said. “Coming forward and participating in the pursuit of justice takes tremendous courage and I hope this conviction brings her closure and the justice she so rightfully deserves.”
Alvarez remains in custody without bail and is scheduled to be sentenced December 14, 2026, at 9 a.m. in courtroom 24 of the Ventura County Superior Court.
He faces a maximum sentence of 74 years and eight months to life in state prison.
The sentencing hearing will determine the final punishment following his conviction on all 11 felony counts.
