Each count also carries a special allegation that the manner in which the crime was carried out indicated planning, sophistication, or professionalism. Boyd was arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court on January 11, 2024, where he pled not guilty.

The investigation into Boyd began in late 2023, when the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Unit (CEHTU) of the District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation became aware of several allegations against Boyd. It is alleged that Boyd contacted persons engaging in commercial sex and solicited them for a prepubescent child to perform sexual acts on. Law enforcement was notified of the alleged incidents. During the investigation, investigators identified Boyd as the suspect allegedly responsible for the solicitation.

On January 9, 2024, investigators from the CEHTU, assisted by the District Attorney’s Cyber Forensics Unit and detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) Major Crimes and Narcotics Unit, served a search warrant in Port Hueneme regarding an investigation into child sex trafficking. Later that day, Boyd was contacted by VCSO detectives during a traffic stop and arrested.

Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit, is prosecuting the case.

Boyd’s next scheduled court appearance is for bail review on January 12, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 13 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He currently remains in custody with bail set at $100,000.
