A Salinas man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a man in Oxnard, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Gonzalo Garcia Rodriguez, 24, is accused of killing Eugenio Lopez Ramirez on Feb. 23, 2025. Prosecutors have also filed special allegations, including the use of a deadly weapon, causing great bodily injury, and that the victim was particularly vulnerable.
Garcia Rodriguez appeared in Ventura County Superior Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to all charges, District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said in a statement.
Fatal stabbing followed by weeks-long investigation
According to prosecutors, Garcia Rodriguez allegedly stabbed Ramirez multiple times before fleeing the scene. Oxnard police officers responded to a 911 call that evening, and emergency responders transported Ramirez to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Following a two-week investigation, detectives identified Garcia Rodriguez as the primary suspect. Authorities said he was the former boyfriend of Ramirez’s girlfriend. At the time of his arrest for murder, Garcia Rodriguez was already in custody at Ventura County Jail on an unrelated domestic violence charge.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Amber Lee, from the Major Crimes Homicide Unit, is prosecuting the case.
Garcia Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in court for an early disposition conference on April 21, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He remains in custody without bail.
