A jury found Alexander guilty of three felony counts: torture, assault on a minor resulting in a comatose condition, and inflicting corporal injury on a child. Additionally, the jury and judge found all special allegations and aggravating factors to be true, including the vulnerability of the victim, Alexander’s position of trust, and the severe harm inflicted on a child under the age of five.

During Thanksgiving week in 2021, Alexander struck his daughter, Alani, with a belt. On November 29 of the same year, he assaulted her again, first using a belt and then a stereo amplifier cable after an incident where the child wet the bed. Alexander continued beating her until she became unresponsive in the bathroom of their Thousand Oaks home. Alani was initially taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she was diagnosed with catastrophic injuries, including brain trauma, a subdural hematoma, spinal compression, bone fractures, and multiple contusions and abrasions.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office conducted an extensive investigation following Alexander’s arrest. During the trial, experts testified that Alani’s injuries were consistent with abusive head trauma.

Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Unit, prosecuted the case.

“Alani faces a future filled with unimaginable challenges due to the defendant’s reprehensible conduct, but today’s verdict holds him accountable and brings a measure of justice to her and to all those profoundly affected by this case,” Kelly said.

Alexander’s sentencing is scheduled for December 12, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 25 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He faces a maximum sentence of seven years to life in state prison.
