CITY OF PORT HUENEME ANNOUNCES NEW POLICE CHIEF

After an extensive nationwide search, The City of Port Hueneme is proud to announce that Michael Federico has been selected as the new Chief of Police.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to be re-joining the Port Hueneme Police Department as Chief, an organization I have both served and have great admiration for. I have been vested in the Port Hueneme community for over 30 years as a resident, Cameo’s father, former business owner, police officer and have been involved with numerous volunteer organizations,” said Chief Federico.

Chief Michael Federico started his police career in the City of Port Hueneme and served for nearly 10 years. He continued his law enforcement career serving the community of Santa Monica for the next 20 years. His tenure at the Santa Monica Police Department includes the last three years as a Detective Lieutenant.

“We are excited to have Chief Federico as Port Hueneme’s new Police Chief. His leadership experience and extensive police career make me feel confident that our city will continue to be one of the safest cities in the nation,” said Port Hueneme Mayor Roberto “Bobby” Martinez.

Throughout his three-decade career, Chief Federico has had the opportunity to work a vast array of assignments, while promoting up the ranks of a large department. Chief Federico’s law enforcement career includes extensive experience in the areas of patrol, investigations, field training, training investigation, dispatch communications, youth services, peer support, youth diversion, incident management, emergency management, and police operations.

“I am very happy to welcome Michael back to the Port Hueneme City family as our new Police Chief. Chief Federico brings the experience and commitment to our community to lead our great department, and engage in community policing with progressive leadership,” said Interim City Manager Tony Stewart.

Effective June 9th, 2023, Michael Federico will officially become Chief of the Port Hueneme Police Department with a starting salary of $253,877 plus benefits. His predecessor, Andrew Salinas became an Assistant Sheriff with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. Acting Chief Robert Albertson will resume his previous role as Commander.
