The event will take place at the Camarillo Police Station, located at 3701 East Las Posas Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as part of a coordinated effort across the United States to prevent drug misuse and protect public health.

The initiative aims to reduce the risk of accidental poisoning, misuse and overdose by encouraging residents to remove unnecessary medications from their homes. Officials say proper disposal also helps prevent environmental contamination caused by flushing medications or throwing them in the trash.

Law enforcement personnel will collect and destroy the medications using secure and environmentally responsible methods. The program is completely anonymous, and no identification will be required from participants.

Residents may bring medications in their original packaging or remove them and place them directly into designated collection containers at the site. Authorities will accept all solid dosage pharmaceutical products, as well as liquid medications in consumer containers.

Officials advise that liquid medications, such as cough syrup, should remain in their original containers with tightly sealed caps to prevent leaks or spills during transport.
Restrictions and safety guidelines

Certain items will not be accepted during the event due to safety concerns. Intravenous solutions, injectable medications and syringes are excluded because of the potential risk posed by bloodborne pathogens.

Illicit substances, including marijuana and methamphetamine, are also not part of the initiative and should not be brought to the event. Authorities noted that such substances can be turned in through the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office by filing an appropriate report.

A uniformed deputy will be present at the station during the event to assist residents and answer any questions.

Officials encourage community members to take advantage of the program as a simple but effective way to prevent drug abuse and contribute to a safer environment.
