A former wrestling coach at Camarillo High School has been charged with five felony counts stemming from the alleged sexual assault of a female student, Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced Tuesday.
Ronald Wilson, 72, of Timnath, Colorado, faces charges including unlawful sexual intercourse, committing lewd acts upon a child, sodomy of a person under 18, and two counts of luring a minor. Prosecutors also filed special allegations that Wilson abused a position of trust and that the victim was particularly vulnerable.
Wilson was arrested at his Colorado home on May 13 following an investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. The inquiry began in March 2025 after the now-adult victim reported that the abuse occurred while she was a student at Camarillo High School.
According to investigators, Wilson allegedly began a sexual relationship with the minor student around 2014, which continued until approximately 2017.
“Teachers and coaches are trusted authority figures who are expected to look after the well-being of our students,” Nasarenko said in a statement. “When they violate that trust and use their position to sexually assault minors, we will pursue justice to the fullest extent of the law. We commend the now-adult victim for her courage, strength, and resolve in coming forward, and we encourage anyone else with information to contact law enforcement immediately.”
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone who may have been victimized or who has knowledge of the case to contact Detective Rico Rinaldi of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office at (805) 384-4732 or by email at Rico.Rinaldi@ventura.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
Efforts to extradite Wilson from Colorado to California are currently underway.
