A Montecito man has been arrested for the negligent discharge of a firearm following a shooting incident that left a victim seriously injured.
On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at approximately 11:53 a.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 400 block of Woodley Road.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male who had been shot in the upper arm while walking his dog. The investigation revealed that the bullet originated from a nearby residence, as evidenced by a bullet hole in a window facing the victim’s direction.
The homeowner, 44-year-old Bendar Albashir, was detained by deputies at the scene. Albashir had been providing first aid to the victim, and there is no indication that the suspect and victim knew each other.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Albashir was arrested and booked at the Main Jail on a felony charge of grossly negligent discharge of a firearm. He has since been released on bail.
Detectives executed a search warrant at Albashir’s residence, where they recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the incident.
