Más de 60 países representados, 52 estrenos mundiales, 53 estrenos en Estados Unidos, y grandes homenajes a celebridades de Hollywood, será la estelar alineación del XXXI Festival Internacional de Cine de Santa Bárbara, anunciaron la semana pasada los organizadores.

El SBIFF comienza el próximo miércoles 3 de febrero, donde la película que abrirá el Festival en el Teatro Arlington será  “El Principito”, cinta basada en el clásico cuento del mismo nombre del escritos francés Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

El Arlington también contará con la película central del Festival, “Kinght of Cups”, protagonizada por el último “Batman”, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman y Cate Blanchett, entre otros.

Mientras que “Marguerite”, un drama divertido y emocional, será la producción que cerrará el Festival el sábado 12 de febrero.

El Director Ejecutivo del SBIFF, el panameño Roger Durling también anunció la adición del cine Fiesta 5 a la lista de cines que proyectarán las películas de este año.

Los tradicionales Homenajes incluirán a estrellas de la talla de: Johnny Depp, Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Banks, Joel Edgerton, Paul Dano, Jacob Tremblay, Alicia Vikander y O’Shea Jackson (Straight Outta Compton), entre otros.

Además de uno de las ramas más populares es la Categoría de Cine Español/Latinoaméricano, que muestra una selección de cintas de España y América Latina.

Este año uno de los jueces será el director español y escritor para El Latino Newspaper, Geoffrey Cowper.

«Es bien sabido que América Latina y España producen grandes películas y el SBIFF han sido uno de los festivales que siempre ayudan a promover en los Estados», indicó Cowper quien en el 2015  presentó su cinta “Tercer Grado” en el SBIFF.

Por su parte, la serie de paneles en el Festival comienza el sábado 6 de febrero con el de Productores, seguido por el de guionistas y los paneles de las mujeres.

Estos interesantes paneles contarán con muchos cineastas prominentes, incluyendo a muchos contendientes al Oscar de este año.

Todos estos eventos se llevarán a cabo en el Teatro Lobero, ubicado en el 33 E. Canon Perdido Street en Santa Bárbara.

Otro de los eventos favoritos en el Festival son: Mike’s Field Trip to the Movies, 10-10-10 la “Competición de Estudiantes”, “Youth CineMedia” y el “AppleBox Family Films”.

Las funciones de películas gratis este año seran “Inside Out”, “Minions”, “The Peanut Movie”, “The Good Dinosaur”, y más.

El Latino Newspaper estará rifando dos paquetes de 5 boletos para quienes contesten la pregunta ¿Qué premio recibirá Johnny Depp?.

More than 60 countries represented, 52 world premieres, 53 U.S. premieres, and big name celebrity tributes all compose part of the 31st Santa Barbara International Film Festival line-up announced at a press conference Monday morning.

The SBIFF kicks off Wednesday, February 3rd. The opening night film will be at the Arlington Theater and feature the U.S. premiere of The Little Prince, a film based on the classic tale of the same name by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

The Arlington will also feature the Centerpiece film, Knight of Cups starring Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett among others. Marguerite, a funny and emotional drama, will close out the festival on Saturday, February 7.

Tributes will include: Johnny Depp, Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Banks, Joel Edgerton, Paul Dano, Jacob Tremblay, Alicia Vikander, O’Shea Jackson (Straight Outta Compton), Geza Rohrig, Brie Larson, Saoirse Ronan, Rooney Mara, and more.

As well one of the most popular competition is the Spanish/Latin America Category, which showcase a selection of Spanish language films from Spain and Latin America.

This year one of the judges will be Spanish Director and El Latino’s Freelance writer Geoffrey Cowper.

“I am delighted and excited to have been invited to judge this category. Is well know that Latin America and Spain produce great films and the SBIFF have been one of the Festivals that always have help to promote them in the States”, said Cowper who himself did the US Premier of his film “Tercer Grado”.

At the same time, SBIFF Executive Director, Panamanian Roger Durling also announced the addition of the Fiesta 5 Theater to the list of Downtown Santa Barbara movie theaters that will be screening many of this year’s films.

SBIFF’s panel series begins on Saturday, February 6 with the Producers Panel, followed by the Screenwriters and Women’s panels.

These insightful panels will feature many prominent filmmakers, including many Academy Award contenders.

All panels will take place at the Lobero Theater located at 33 E. Canon Perdido Street.
