El Departamento de Policía de Oxnard muy pronto estará reclutando a un nuevo Jefe de Policía, esto se debe que la actual Comandante, Jeri Williams, estará dejando su cargo para ser la nueva manda más en Phoenix a finales de este año.
«La Jefe Williams será profundamente extrañada. Ella ha tenido un impacto significativo trabajando mano a mano con el personal y la comunidad para hacer cambios positivos en Oxnard. Aunque estoy triste de su partida, estoy feliz que ella tenga la oportunidad de volver a casa para estar con su familia», dijo Nyhoff.
Williams por su parte dice estar muy agradecida con todos en la ciudad.
“Estoy honrada de haber servido a la comunidad de Oxnard durante los últimos cinco años y medio. Tengo ganas de un nuevo capítulo en mi carrera liderando el Departamento de Policía de Phoenix», enfatizó la Comandante.
La Capitán ha sido jefe de policía de Oxnard PD desde enero del 2011, y es conocida por su filosofía de participación, enfoque policial basado en la comunidad, después de haber trabajado en estrecha colaboración con los empleados municipales, líderes y organizaciones locales para resolver los problemas comunitarios.
La Jefe Williams trabajó en Phoenix antes de llegar a Oxnard, fue en Phoenix donde emergió y sobresalió por su trabajo, comenzando como aprendiz de policía en 1988 y convertirse en Subjefe de policía en el 2009.
En un foro de candidatos de reclutamiento en junio en Arizona, la Jefe Williams explicó por qué se dejó Phoenix por Oxnard hace cinco años y medio.
«He estado con el OXPD durante 5 años y me fui de casa. Salí de las comodidades del hogar para obtener la experiencia profesional que pensé que tenía que tener para ser el jefe de la policía de Phoenix. No fue fácil, fue un reto. Dejé a mi familia aquí, dejé a mis hijos aquí, mi casa aquí, pero estoy aquí para decirles que esa experiencia me ha ayudado a crecer a pasos agigantados en cuanto a liderazgo y organización, cuidar del Departamentos de Policía y construir e involucrar a la comunidad».
En febrero del 2016, la Comandante fue nombrada «Mujer del Año» de Oxnard por la asambleísta Jacqui Irwin por sus esfuerzos de liderazgo y de vigilancia comunitaria.
Williams sustituirá al actual Comandante de Phoenix cuando se retire en octubre.
Además de un Jefe de Policía de Oxnard, la Alcaldía también está buscando un nuevo Jefe de Bomberos.
Bryan Brice, contratado en diciembre dejará su cargo a finales de julio. El jefe de bomberos indicó que abandona su puesto para tomar el mismo puesto en una Ciudad del estado de Washington.

The Oxnard Police Department (OXPD) will soon be looking for a new Police Chief, this is because current Chief of Police, Jeri Williams, will be starting her new post as Phoenix PD’s new Police Chief later this year.
Chief Williams was one of a handful of finalists and will be the first woman to hold that job title in the City’s history.
The news of her departure was announced last Wednesday by Oxnard City Manager Greg Nyhoff.
“Chief Williams will be deeply missed. She has made a significant impact working hand-in-hand with staff and the community to make positive changes in Oxnard. Although I’m sad to see her go, I’m happy she has the opportunity to return home to be with her family,” said Mr. Nyhoff.
The Captain said she is proud for everything she has done in Oxnard.
“I’m honored to have served the Oxnard community for the past five-and-a-half years. I look forward to a new chapter in my career leading the Phoenix Police Department,” she said.
Chief Williams has been Oxnard PD’s police chief since January 2011, and is known for her hands-on, community-based policing approach, having worked closely with City employees, local leaders and organizations to resolve community challenges.
Chief Williams worked in Phoenix before coming to Oxnard to become Oxnard’s Chief of Police.
In Phoenix she rose through the ranks, starting as a police trainee in 1988 and becoming assistant police chief in 2009.
In Arizona, during a recruitment candidate forum in June Chief Williams explained why she left Phoenix for Oxnard five-and-a-half years ago.
”I have been with the Oxnard Police Department for 5 years and I left home. I left the comforts of home to get the professional experience that I thought I needed to have to be the Phoenix Police Chief. It wasn’t easy, It was challenging. I left my family here, I left my children here, I left my home here, but I am here to tell you that, that experience has helped me grow leaps and bounds in leadership management and organization, taking care of police departments and building and engaging the community.»
In February 2016, Chief Williams was named “Woman of the Year” by Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin for her leadership and community policing efforts.
Williams will be replacing Phoenix’s Police Chief when he retires in October.
Besides a Police Chief the City of Oxnard is also looking for a new Fire Chief.
The Fire Chief Oxnard hired in December will be leaving at the end of July. Fire Chief Bryan Brice said he is leaving his position for a chief position in Washington State.
