As part of California’s ongoing wildfire response and recovery efforts, Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that individuals and families directly impacted by the recent fires in Los Angeles County may be eligible for Disaster CalFresh (D-CalFresh) food benefits.
A family of four with a monthly income of up to $3,529 may qualify for a one-time $975 food benefit through this program, available to those who lived or worked in a fire-affected area on January 7, 2025.
“California’s response and recovery efforts will continue to focus on the needs of people in the affected areas,” said Governor Newsom. “My administration is committed to supporting individuals and families who need our help the most by expanding assistance programs. Starting February 10, I encourage eligible residents to apply for D-CalFresh benefits so they can put food on the table.”

The California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS) has secured waivers to provide further food assistance:
• Hot Food Purchases: Until February 8, 2025, CalFresh recipients in Los Angeles and nearby counties can use their benefits to buy hot foods, as many affected families may lack access to food storage or cooking facilities.
• Replacement Benefits: CalFresh recipients who lost food due to the fires have until February 5, 2025, to request replacement benefits by calling (866) 613-3777 (Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.).
• Emergency Food Distribution: The state has allocated $1 million in emergency reserve funding to provide food boxes and potable water through the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. A list of distribution locations is available online.
