Ventura County Sheriff’s investigators have shut down a residential brothel in Thousand Oaks, connecting two potential human trafficking victims to critical support services.
The investigation began in April 2024 after community members reported suspicious activity at a home in the 200 block of Camino Manzanas. Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Special Crimes Unit suspected the location was being used for commercial sex work.
In November, after months of surveillance and gathering evidence, detectives executed a search warrant at the residence. They encountered Jian Hu, who was found to have financially benefited from individuals providing commercial sex acts at the location.
Authorities also identified two adult women believed to be Chinese nationals, who were assessed as potential victims of human trafficking. Both women were referred to local victim services organizations for assistance.
Legal Action Taken
Following the investigation, detectives arrested Hu on charges of pimping, a violation of California Penal Code Section 266h. Hu was booked into the Ventura County Sheriff’s Main Jail and later released after posting $20,000 bail.
The Sheriff’s Office highlighted the importance of community involvement in uncovering illicit operations like this one. The case is a reminder of the ongoing issue of human trafficking in residential areas and the need for vigilance.
