En una muestra temprana de apoyo, la congresista Lois Capps respaldó a Salud Carbajal en su postulación como Congresista del Distrito 24, en un evento al que asistieron sus partidarios más fieles, funcionarios locales y líderes comunitarios.

“Me siento extremadamente contento y honrado que la congresista Capps me apoye para la carrera del Congreso 2014. Esto significa un mundo para mí, porque ha dejado un gran legado en Washington. Para mí sólo hay dos avales que realmente importan, uno es el de mi esposa Gina, y el otro el de la congresista Capps “, indicó Carbajal.

Capps que ha representado a la Costa Central en el Congreso durante más de 17 años anunció a principios de este año que no se reeligiría.

“Salud ha dedicado su carrera a reunir a la gente para resolver problemas difíciles. Él comparte mi compromiso con la expansión de oportunidades y ayudar a las familias en la Costa Central salir adelante, y eso es exactamente el tipo de liderazgo que necesitamos en Washington. Estaré orgullosa de llamar a Salud Carbajal mi Congresista”, enfatizó Capps en el evento del sábado.

El anuncio es un gran paso en la carrera de Carbajal ya que ganó el apoyo de la congresista sobre la otra demócrata en contienda, el alcalde de Santa Bárbara Helene Schneider.

Carbajal, que todavía representa el Primer Distrito como supervisor también declaró que se siente muy emocionado por cómo su campaña va hasta ahora.

“Ciertamente tenemos un momentun y con este apoyo aumentamos ese impulso para mi campaña. Es un paso adelante significativo, y se nota mi capacidad, que soy el mejor candidato para suplir efectivamente a la Congresista Capps”, aseguró Carbajal en entrevista con El Latino.

In an early show of support, Congresswoman Lois Capps endorsed Salud Carbajal for Congress at an event attended by long-time supporters, local elected officials and community leaders. 

“I feel extremely emboldened and honored that Congresswoman Capps has endorse me for the congressional race. It means the world to me, because she has left a great legacy in Washington. For me there are only two endorsements that really matter, one is from my wife Gina, and the other from Mrs. Capps,” he said.

Capps who has represented the Central Coast in Congress for over 17 years announced she would not be seeking reelection. 

“Salud has spent his career bringing people together to solve tough problems,” said Congresswoman Lois Capps. “He shares my commitment to expanding opportunity and helping families on the Central Coast get ahead, and that’s exactly the kind of leadership we need in Washington. I’ll be proud to call Salud Carbajal my Congressman,” she said.

The announcement is a big move in Mr. Carbajal’s race as he won the Congresswoman’s support over the other democratic candidate, Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider.

Mr. Carbajal, who still represents the First District as a Supervisor, also stated he is feeling very excited for how his campaign is going so far.

“Certainly we have a lot of momentum and with this endorsement increase that momentum for my campaign. It is a significant step forward.It shows my ability and that I’m the best candidate to effectively succeeded Congresswoman Capps,” he said.

Capps headlines a growing list of over 100 elected officials, business and community leaders who have endorsed Salud Carbajal for Congress.

Mrs. Capps’ daughter Laura Burton Capps has also endorsed Mr. Carbajal, and she will be joining the campaign as an advisor.
