District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced Monday that Lucio Sedeno, 34, of Oxnard, has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer resulting in serious bodily injury, and failing to update his annual sex offender registration.
Sedeno also faces two special allegations, including causing great bodily injury during the commission of a felony.
The incident occurred on April 7, 2025, when officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a report of a family dispute. Upon arrival, officers learned that Sedeno had allegedly assaulted a family member and was not in compliance with sex offender registration requirements.
Authorities say Sedeno refused to follow officers’ commands and began to walk away. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he allegedly used a large shard of glass to slash one officer on the side of the neck.
Sedeno was ultimately taken into custody without further incident. The injured officer was treated at a local hospital and is recovering.
“This case highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty,” said District Attorney Nasarenko. “We will vigorously prosecute those who threaten public safety officers and harm members of our community.”
Deputy District Attorney Celeste Sanchez, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Crimes Against Police Officers Unit, is prosecuting the case.
Sedeno made his first court appearance on April 9, 2025, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. An early disposition conference is scheduled for April 18, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Sedeno remains in custody with bail set at $80,000.
