Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a $20 million federal grant to support workers affected by the recent Los Angeles firestorms.
As part of California’s ongoing commitment to disaster recovery, Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that the Biden-Harris Administration has allocated up to $20 million in federal funds to help workers facing job losses due to the historic firestorms in Los Angeles.
The funding, administered by California’s Employment Development Department (EDD), will address immediate needs by creating temporary jobs in impacted areas and providing critical workforce support services.
Details of the Aid
• $10 Million for Immediate Relief:
Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles will receive $10 million to create temporary jobs focused on humanitarian aid and cleanup efforts. These roles will include debris removal, shelter operations, and community health services, helping to rebuild and restore impacted communities.
• $10 Million for Workforce Development:
Another $10 million will go to the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity to provide displaced workers with transitional jobs, on-the-job training, and access to workforce services. Additional support, such as housing, childcare, transportation, and skill training, will also be available to aid long-term recovery and career development.
