Durante la primera semana de julio, la Unidad contra la Trata de Personas del Condado de Ventura (VCHTTF) y la Unidad de Ejecución Dirigida de la Policía de Thousand Oaks llevaron a cabo una operación para rescatar a víctimas del tráfico sexual y arrestar a sus traficantes que trabajan en hoteles locales.

Durante la operación, los agentes contactaron a varias víctimas trabajadoras sexuales adultas en un hotel local, quienes lo hacían bajo la dirección de una organización criminal que las explotaba por las acciones ilicitas.

“Se contactó a numerosas mujeres sospechosas de tráfico sexual y se les ofreció orientación para la reubicación u otros servicios centrados en las víctimas. De hecho una mujer adulta solicitó asistencia para regresar a su país de origen”, declaró el TOPD en un comunicado de prensa.

Además, se informó que el VCHTTF trabaja en estrecha colaboración con una organización sin fines de lucro que ofrece servicios para esta clase de víctimas que para ayudarlas a regresar a su hogar, y también lleva a cabo capacitaciones para hoteles y operadores de moteles en el condado, la cual tiene planeadas presentaciones futuras.

«Las capacitaciones son para que los empleados de los hoteles reconozcan los signos de la trata de personas, y cómo denunciar casos sospechosos», dijeron las autoridades. Según el Código legal 12950.3 (b) (1) de California desde el 1º de enero de este año, los hoteles y moteles deberán proporcionar al menos 20 minutos de aula u otra capacitación y educación interactiva efectiva sobre la conciencia de la trata de personas a cada empleado que tenga menos de seis meses trabajando.

Además, los detectives alientan a las víctimas a comunicarse con «211» o con la policía local si alguien cree que está en riesgo o conoce a una víctima de trata de personas para que se conecte con los servicios.

GIMNASIOS, SALONES Y ALGUNOS RESTAURANTES CERRADOS

En respuesta a los crecientes casos de COVID-19 y las hospitalizaciones en California, el gobernador Gavin Newsom ha ordenado el cierre de algunas operaciones comerciales en interiores en todo el estado, y cierres adicionales para condados que se encuentran en la Lista de Monitoreo de Condados para 3 días consecutivos.

Los Condados de Santa Bárbara y Ventura están incluidos en esta lista de los 34 condados afectados, y la orden entró en efecto desde el lunes pasado.

Estas industrias incluyen restaurantes, bodegas de degustación de vino, cervecerías, salas de cine, centros de entretenimiento familiar, zoológicos, museos, casinos, gimnasios y servicios de cuidado como masajes y salones de uñas, peluquerías y barberías, centros comerciales y lugares de culto.

Algunas de estas industrias han estado abiertas por menos de un mes después de que el estado les dio luz verde para reabrir.

La orden se debe a que en las 48 horas previas se ha visto el incremento más grande en todo el país de pacientes con Covid, reportando sólo el domingo más de 75 mil afectados, lo que fue un récord a nivel mundial.

Además de los condados que figuran en la lista de monitoreo, Newsom ha ordenado a todos los condados del estado que realicen modificaciones en sus operaciones.

Cada una de estas industrias debe cerrar sus operaciones en interiores, pero tienen la opción de permanecer abiertas si operan en el exterior, y aquellas empresas donde eso no sea esto posible deben cerrar.

También, los bares que no sirven comida estarán cerrados en todo el estado.

Dichas restricciones ya han estado vigentes para los condados que estuvieron en la lista de monitoreo del estado por más de tres días.

ENCUENTRAN EL CUERPO DE NAYA RIVERA

El Departamento del Alguacil del Condado de Ventura (VCSD) informó que el cuerpo encontrado en el Lago Piru el lunes por la mañana es el de la actriz Naya Rivera.

En una conferencia de prensa en el lago el lunes por la tarde, el Alguacil Bill Ayub confirmó el hallazgo.

«Ella tuvo suficiente energía para llevar a su hijo de regreso al barco, pero no lo suficiente para salvarse», señaló Ayub a los medios.

Las autoridades dicen que creen que la causa de la muerte es por ahogamiento, donde los equipos de búsqueda y rescate de todo el estado trabajaron para recuperar el cuerpo para luego llevarlo a la oficina forense del condado de Ventura.

Rivera desapareció el miércoles 8 de julio mientras visitaba el Lago Piru con su hijo de 4 años.

Cuando el pequeño barco eléctrica que alquilaron no fue devuelto, la empresa de alquiler los buscó, y ahí su hijo fue encontrado a bordo y dormido.

Los equipos de buceo utilizaron sistemas de escaneo de sonar para buscar las aguas turbias del lago artificial.

Ayub llamó la muerte de la actriz ‘Glee’ un «trágico accidente», y es que Rivera es el tercer miembro principal del elenco de la popular comedia musical “Glee” en morir con menos de 40 años de edad.

El descubrimiento del cuerpo de Rivera se produce 7 años después de la fecha en que Cory Monteith, otra de las estrellas de la serie, sucumbió a una sobredosis por drogas.

Ayub, indicó que la familia de Rivera ha permanecido en el área del lago durante toda la búsqueda, y ha sido notificada de la recuperación del cuerpo.

GOLETA INICIA CAMPAÑA

La semana pasada en un esfuerzo por enfatizar la importancia de usar máscaras para minimizar la propagación de COVID-19, la Ciudad de Goleta lanzó la campaña #reCOVERgoleta.

De acuerdo a la Alcaldía, el objetivo del eslogan #reCOVERgoleta es capturar la necesidad de usar consistentemente coberturas faciales para protegerse mutuamente y permitir que la comunidad vuelva a sus negocios de manera segura.

La campaña respalda las órdenes emitidas por el Concejo Municipal de Goleta, el Director de Salud Pública del Condado y el Gobernador de California, con respecto a los requisitos de salud y prevención.

La Alcaldesa de la ciudad de Goleta, Paula Perotte, expresó su agradecimiento por la cantidad de residentes que siguen las pautas de salud.

“Gracias Goleta por seguir cuidando el uno al otro y por hacer lo que se necesita para superar este momento difícil. Usar una cubierta facial es fundamental para ayudarnos a avanzar. Gracias por ayudarnos #reCOVERgoleta”, indicó.

Según las autoridades locales, un creciente número de investigaciones científicas ha demostrado que las personas con pocos síntomas de COVID-19 pueden transmitir la enfermedad y que el uso de cubiertas faciales, combinado con distanciamiento físico, quedarse en casa cuando alguien se siente enfermo y el lavado frecuente de manos, reduce en gran medida la propagación del COVID-19.

Así, las mascaras son obligatorias en todo momento cuando se está en público o cuando una personas interactúa con alguien con quien no vive.

Como parte de la campaña #reCOVERgoleta, la Alcaldía colocará carteles en toda la comunidad y también está alentando a las empresas a publicar carteles.

«También pedimos que los residentes y las empresas promocionen el hashtag #reCOVERgoleta y los gráficos/volantes en sus canales de redes sociales para ayudar a difundir el mensaje, que están en inglés y español», declaró la ciudad.

Como parte de la campaña, se ha publicado un nuevo video informativo y de seguridad en YouTube con el coordinador de servicios de emergencia, Michael Baris, que tiene como objetivo aclarar cierta confusión sobre cómo y cuándo usar cubiertas faciales, que también tiene una versión en español.

Además de la información sobre las cubiertas faciales, el video también incluye otros consejos importantes de seguridad de COVID-19.

LOMPOC

La policía de Lompoc (LPD) está buscando a un hombre buscado en el asesinato de un soldado de Lompoc en 2019 después de que fue identificado como sospechoso en múltiples tiroteos el sábado.

Alrededor de las 7:48 p.m. el sábado, según las autoridades, Walter Morales persiguió y disparó contra un vehículo en la cuadra 1000 de West Olive Avenue.

La policía dijo que había varios ocupantes en el vehículo, incluidos niños.

Según los informes, el sospechoso conducía un Mercury Mountaineer plateado durante dicho incidente.

Más tarde ese día, se informó de un segundo tiroteo cerca de la intersección de Laurel Avenue y N Street con un vehículo descrito de manera similar.

Durante la investigación, LDD confirmó que el vehículo descrito fue conducido por Morales, quien es descrito como un hombre latino de 5’4 «y pesa alrededor de 120 libras, con cabello negro y ojos marrones.

El sospechoso tiene varios tatuajes que incluyen la palabra «Morales» en la espalda, «Griselda» en el cuello, «Elisa» y «L» en el brazo derecho, «VLP» en el brazo izquierdo, «LOM» en la pierna izquierda y «POC» en su pierna derecha.

Morales también es buscado en relación con el asesinato en septiembre de 2019 del soldado del ejército estadounidense Marlon Brumfield.

Hay una orden activa para su arresto por esa investigación.

Otro sospechoso identificado como Francisco Gutiérrez Ortega, de 24 años, de Santa María ya fue arrestado y acusado del asesinato de Brumfield.

During the first week of July The Ventura County Human Trafficking Task Force (VCHTTF) and the Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit conducted an operation to rescue victims of sex trafficking and arrest their traffickers working out of local hotels.

During this operation agents from the VCHTTF and the TOPD contacted several adult sex trafficking victims working out of a local hotel.

These victims are sex workers that work at the direction of a criminal organization who profits from the illicit activities.

“Numerous women that were suspected of sex trafficking were contacted and offered counseling relocation or other victim centered services. One adult female requested assistance in returning to her country of origin” stated the TOPD in a press release.

The VCHTTF works closely with a non-profit victim service provider who was able to assist her in returning to her family home and also conducts training for hotels and motel operators in the county and has future presentations planned.

“This training is for hotels employees to recognize the signs of human trafficking knowledge of laws and how to report suspected human trafficking cases” the authorities said.

According to California legal Code 12950.3(b)(1), “by January 1, 2020, an employer shall provide at least 20 minutes of classroom or other effective interactive training and education regarding human trafficking awareness to each employee who is likely to interact or come into contact with victims of human trafficking and who is employed as of July 1, 2019, and, within six months of his or her employment in that role.

The TOPD is urging anyone interested in participating in the training to contact them at [email protected].

Also, detectives encourage victims to contact «211» or local law enforcement if anyone believes is in risk or know a victim of human trafficking to be connected with services.

GYMS, SALONS AND SOME RESTAURANTS CLOSED AGAIN

Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered more business sectors to close in some California counties.

These industries include gyms, personal care services like massage and nail parlors, hair salons and barbershops, indoor malls, and places of worship. The order goes into effect immediately.

Newsom said the industries will need to close in the counties that are currently listed on the state’s coronavirus monitoring list.

That list includes Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, and as of Monday, San Luis Obispo County.

Meanwhile San Luis Obispo County avoids this order for the time being, but will meet the same fate if it remains on the state’s list for more than three days.

Some of these industries have been open for less than a month after being given the greenlight by the state to reopen.

In addition to the counties listed on the state’s monitoring list, Newsom has ordered all counties in the state to make modifications to their indoor operations.

These industries include restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos and museums, and cardrooms. Each of these industries must close their indoor operations but have the option to stay open if they expand to outdoors. Those businesses where that is not realistic, must close.

Bars that do not serve food will be closed across the state, Newsom said.

These restrictions have already been in place for counties that were on the state’s monitoring list for more than three days.

NAYAS RIVERAS BODY IS FOUND

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department says a body found at Lake Piru Monday morning is missing actress Naya Rivera.

Search and Rescue teams from around the state worked to recover the body Monday. Rivera’s body was recovered and flown to the Ventura County coroner’s office.

Rivera went missing on Wednesday, July 8 while visiting Lake Piru with her 4-year-old son. When the boat they rented wasn’t returned the rental company went looking for them. Her son was found asleep, alone aboard the boat.

Search and Rescue teams from across the state contributed in the search, searching both the lake waters and the surrounding areas on land. Dive teams utilized sonar scanning systems to search the murky waters of the manmade reservoir. On Thursday, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said the search for Rivera had transitioned into a recovery operation.

A press conference took place at the lake Monday afternoon. During that press conference, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub confirmed that Rivera’s body was located.

«She mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat but not enough to save herself,» Ayub said during the news conference.

Officials say they believe the cause of death to be drowning.

Ayub had previously called the ‘Glee’ actress’ death a «tragic accident.»

Rivera is the third main cast member of the popular Fox sitcom to die in their 30s. The discovery of Rivera’s body comes 7 years to the date that Cory Monteith, another of the show’s stars, died from a drug overdose.

Rivera’s family have remained in the area of the lake throughout the search. Ayub said. Her family has been notified of the recovery of the body.

GOLETA LAUNCHES RECOVERY CAMPAIGN

Last week in an effort to stress the importance of wearing face coverings to minimize the spread of COVID-19, the City of Goleta launched the #reCOVERgoleta campaign. 

According to the City, the goal of the #reCOVERgoleta slogan is to capture the need to consistently wear face coverings to protect each other and allow our community to safely get back to business. 

The campaign supports the orders issued by the Goleta City Council, Santa Barbara County Public Health Officer, and Governor of California, in regard to face covering requirements.

City of Goleta Mayor Paula Perotte stated they are grateful for how many residents are following the health guidelines.

“Thank you Goleta, for continuing to look out for each other and for doing what is needed to get us through this challenging time. Wearing a face covering is critical to helping us move forward.  Thanks for helping us #reCOVERgoleta,” she said.

According to the local authorities a growing body of scientific research has shown that people with no or few symptoms of COVID-19 can still spread the disease and that the use of face coverings, combined with physical distancing, staying at home when someone feels sick and frequent hand washing, will reduce the spread of COVID-19. 

Face coverings are required mandatory when in public at all times or interacting with anyone that don’t live together.

As part of the #reCOVERgoleta campaign the City will be putting up signs throughout the community and is encouraging businesses to post signs as well. 

“We also ask that residents and businesses promote the #reCOVERgoleta hashtag and graphic/flyers on their social media channels to help spread the word, which are in English and Spanish”, the City stated.

As part of the campaign a new informative and safety video has been posted in YouTube featuring the Emergency Services Coordinator, Michael Baris, which aims to clear up some confusion about how and when to wear face coverings, which also has a Spanish version.

In addition to information about face coverings, the video also includes other important COVID-19 safety tips.   

«If this Administration has its way, oil development will rampantly continue off of our coastline,” said Michael Lyons, President of Get Oil Out! “GOO! is concerned about the potential catastrophic impacts of oil spills from more new drilling off our coastline. GOO! strongly supports a more sustainable energy path into the future and, therefore applauds Congressman Carbajal’s efforts to stop future oil leases through the appropriations process.»

LOMPOC

Lompoc police are searching for a man wanted in the 2019 murder of a Lompoc soldier after he was identified as the suspect in multiple shootings on Saturday.

Around 7:48 p.m. Saturday, Walter Morales reportedly chased and shot at a vehicle on the 1000 Block of West Olive Avenue. Police said there were multiple occupants in the vehicle, including children.

Morales was reported to be driving a silver Mercury Mountaineer during the incident.

Later that day, a second shooting was reported near the intersection of Laurel Avenue and N Street involving a similarly described vehicle.

During the investigation, Lompoc police confirmed the vehicle described was driven by Walter Morales.

Morales is described as a Hispanic man who is 5-foot-4 and weighs about 120 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

He has various tattoos including the word «Morales» on his back, «Griselda» on his neck, “Elisa» and «L» on his right arm, «VLP» on his left arm, «LOM» on his left leg and «POC» on his right leg.

Morales is also wanted in connection to the September 2019 murder of US Army Soldier Marlon Brumfield. There is an active warrant for his arrest for that investigation.

Another suspect identified as Francisco Gutierrez Ortega, 24, of Santa Maria has already been arrested and charged in Brumfield’s murder.
